Here's the run down.

Monday AM pick up Chopper
Monday PM Chopper breaks
Tuesday PM dealer drives 75 mile to pick up Chopper
Wednesday AM begin dismantle / tear down
Wednesday PM order parts and special tools from Big Dog
Thursday AM receive parts & begin reassembly
Thursday noon dealer informs me bike will be ready late PM or early AM

I inspect bike and find out problems:

1. turns out Baker had some issues with a batch of bad bearings and shims. Transmission failure (remember my 5th gear problem).
2. main shaft on starter had defect in metal. 1/2" shaft snapped where it comes thru into the primary.

Dealer rebuilt tranny and replaced starter in 1 day. I'm impressed considering they didn't even have the parts or tools in stock!!!!

I'm happy. So, I told them to go ahead and replace the ugly black rubber hoses with stainless steel, and throw on the head bolt covers and a set of spiked fork caps while they were at it.

My brother is a passenger coming in from syracuse tomorrow, so he's going to meet me at the dealer and drive my truck home so I can ride the Dog home tomorrow. Everything seemed to just work out.

(except the weather this weekend).

Lee When the starter motor is engaged and you get a backfire. This sometimes try to turn the starter back wards.Shock loading the starter shaft till it fails.Sometimes its instant breakage, sometimes it starts a crack in the shaft till it fails. Sometimes you can tell which way the break started from the end of the shaft. If the starter turns normally in one direction and is forced to turn the other way it will show up on the break. I think i said it rite.:loony:

erlwntsBdog,

Got to build up confidence in the bike before a big trip now. Keep rides to within 100 - 150 miles from Rochester Thunder for now.

They can get bikes from the warehouse within 1 week. Lots of choices at warehouse.

ajo,

Excellent to hear on the great service and quick turn around from the dealer. I am sure that you will be a happy camper very shortly. Dealers customer service like what you have experience is something many other dealers should strive for verse how much the can screw the customer out of up front, then again seems like a few of those are getting pay back now with doors ending up being Closed.

See you down the road and good luck on the new Job.

Dealer had bike together and running great when I got there today. Rain kept me from getting it home. I didn't like the knurling on the BD fork caps, so I pulled up Low DOwn Chop Shop on line for the dealer and showed him what I want, so they were going to get in touch with bdmridgeback. They liked his product, hopefully it works out for everyone.

Seeing I was in a good mood, had them do a few other little projects. Had them put on one of those cruise controls I seen on here (Raywood?). Remove the reflectors and down tube sticker, finally. Detail the bike.

Thinking about it I should give them a call and have them get the Dyna beads and a Brake Line Clamp from bdmridgeback.

Maybe even get turn signal visors from Harley.

Your killing me AJ. When ya picking the ride now? Too bad the weather turned to shit. I would have taken a ride out your way this weekend.
I rode last Sunday and put about 100 miles on the curly tailed bike.

Earl,

I have to watch the weather for the pick up. I'll PM you when I know I'm going.

All that nice weather and I missed it.
