Chirpping/squeaking noise

I have this annoying noise going on that I can't pinpoint. It is a chirpping or squeaking noise that you can hear on the right side of the bike. It happens during any type of deceleration, whether it be from downshifting or letting off the throttle. I also hear it when going over bumpy roads. It def comes from the right side, somewhere from about mid bike and forward. I asked a mechanic I know, over the phone, and says it sounds like an exhaust leak but I just don't know.

What ya think?

check your upper motor mount for tightness and other nuts, bolts etc, sure its not left side like belt?

Mine has only done it accelerating.

It'd be nice to know what it is in case it happens to more of us!

My chirping happend to be my belt. It did it around 2500 miles,I called Anthony(BadAss BigDog mechanic) at Mancuso's here in Houston and he told me what it was and how to tighten it up. It's an easy fix, there is no need in taking it to the shop unless you want too.

Chirping on my K9 was the upper motor mounts were loose.... always sounded like it was on the right.... I'd check there first.

Yup! Same here. Would chirp every time I decelerated. Always sounded like it came from the right side too. Any idea what these bolts should be torqued to?

My 2003 chopper was doing the deceleration chirp. I found the following:

1) Top motor mount bolt was loose. ( i removed it and applied blue lok tite)

2) I made a belt alignment tool out of an old arrow and a Allen wrench and a zip tie. The back wheel was cocked about 1/8" to the right. I straightened the rear wheel alignment.

Now I have a momentary chirp on decel and that is all. Considerably better.

PS: I also checked the 4 lower motor mounts and they were tight.

Metal on the upper motor mount rubbing against the coil cover. Get a teflon washer to seperate the two and the chirp will be gone.

This is gonna come off as stupid but I really am a novice wrench. Very novice. Where are the mounting bolts located that I should be checking for looseness? Again, I am sorry for such a stupid question but I really have no idea. Thanks

there are three bolts, theres one on each side of the coil mount that bolt to each head, then theres one bigger bolt in the center of the coil mount right under your gas tank, they are all on the left side of the bike, the coil cover is also the upper motormount, which is also where your ignitin key is

Top bolt(allen head 3/8 I think) go's thur frame under tank, the nut looks like a big chrome point, must be self locking or something ,cause all i did was tighten the allen head and it didn' turn. Made my new bike sound real bad, amazing what 1 bolt can do. At 500 mile service they took it off and put loc-tite on it.Good luck, hope your's go's as easy a mine. Got all my info on this awsome site,signed-up right after.

Ok, update. The motor mounts were fine, the exhaust isnt leaking, and the head gasket is fine, and the rear belt is tight enough. The chirping is getting worse. Here's the thing, it stops when I grab the clutch. As soon as I let the clutch out while riding it chirps and then it continues to chirp over bumps, like on a rough road.Could it be something in the tranny? Or maybe the outer primary?

Slow down....:hi:..... Let's not jump to something expensive... 90% of the time it's the belt at the rear pulley. see if it is riding against one side of the pulley or the other. A simple rear wheel alignment should take care of it. :2thumbs:
: I went to your post back and see it is an 03... this chirp i was talking about is on right side drives.... But... i would still try to think simple before $$$$$ :

I am on here asking because I most def don't want to drop money if I don't have to. The belt on the rear pulley is riding against the inside of the pulley.

I have a left side drive 04.the belt squeals like a pig if i dont spray it down.I also think the belt should ride on the outer edge of the rear pulley.I aligned and realigned several times but I think I just have a bad pulley.Try some silicone spray on the edge of the belt and see if it goes away, atleast you can eliminate that for sure.My belt squeals until i let of the throttle or pull in the clutch also.just sayn:cheers:

Re-line your belt, if the belt moves again to the outer edge of the pully your swing arm is bent. Easy fix.....
