Chirping noise in drive train

Hey,
I have a 2001 Boxer that I've had since new. Recently I've noticed a chirping noise from somewhere in the drive train. It only happens when I am accelerating not when I am holding at a steady speed. I looked in the archives but nothing seems to go back that far. Anyone had this problem?
Help would be appreciated since weather here in Myrtle Beach is really perfect for riding.

Welcome to the club! This was dicussed ad-nauseum in the old forum, I guess those archives aren't here? I have the same problem, on accel or decel a quick little chirp, and sometimes a constant squeal. After going through all the regular alignment procedures, I keep the problem in check by constantly washing my belt and front/rear pulley, and a very light coat of grease or WD40 on the edges of my drive belt. I'm not sure if anyone has ever come up with a real, lasting solution to this problem. The newer models have a teflon coated rear pulley, but that doesn't help us.

Welcome... its more common problem... do some searching for "chirp" and you'll find lots of info.

I used to have this problem when my secondary drive belt was not adjusted correctly. Its been lots of years and I want to think it was loose, but for sure adjust it as per the manual.

I bought my 04 Chop in Jan and it started to Chirp on acceleration after about 100 miles(Bike only had 1700 when I bought it). I took it back to the dealer and he spent the past month trying to fix it. After alligning everything it still didn't help. Ended up replacing the belt with a panther belt and the front pulley. This fixed it just long enough form me to drive 100 miles to my house and it started up again. I've decided to live with it.:confused:

Most members on here who have had the chirp solved the problem with either alignment of the belt or replacing the belt however I had a chirp shortly afterI bought my 05 chopper and I also thought it was a belt alignment problem but it turned out to be a clutch rod that had not been lubricated from the factory and it was the incorrect size. Just giving you a heads up on something else you might want to check.

Mine started to chirp last summer at around 4000 miles. Light throttle and consistent with wheel speed... Had it checked @ the dealer when i was having recalls done in January and was told the belt was loose.. they adjusted it and i rode it when i picked it up 20-30 miles and no chirp :2thumbs: I just hope that the 23 degree temp isent the reason the chirp was gone :confused:

Have you considered the possibility that a little bird has gotten stuck in there and is chirping for help? ;)

do you have a teflon coated pulley? I'm guessing not and that may be the issue

This was the "Drive Matrix" service recall that BDM put out back around 03-04. Had to do the whole process with my 04 Chop. Ended up with the teflon pulley in the end. Its an alignment issue but starts can be the tranny, swing arm, belt and/or pulley at the end of the day. Took three tries to get mine fixed in the end, but never heard it again.

I had a slight chirp in mine untill today when I had the belt tension adjusted for the first time at 8900 miles. It went away and i haven't heard it yet. I do have the teflon pulley though being mine is an 07.

Just an update... 100 miles and still no chirp..:2thumbs:
