Chipped paint on ththe tank

Hello everyone and thank you for the warm welcome!!
So I am looking for some advise on a decent method of repair for my tank. I went riding this afternoon and after arriving back home I was maneuvering the bike into the garage to park it. While doing this I had to turn the wheel to the far right. In doing so, the throttle cables dug into the tank! Needless to say I am pretty agitated. Dose or did anyone have this similar issue with their K9? It's a pretty bad chip, thankfully not down to the metal. The chip is about half the size of a dime. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All you can do is try to find matching paint which may be tough and keep adding paint to area till it’s built up enough to wet sand and buff

I suspect your handle bar bushing are worn, causing them to sag and able to make contact. I would replace those to prevent from happening again.

I agree with above. Try and get a hold of some touch up paint.

In the mean time, get some clear touch up and cover the chip to keep it from getting worse. Don’t let any water get on it before you do so.

I done the exact same thing to mine. I put a tie on both cables close to the base of the handlebars and it moved them out of the way. They don't hit anymore. Carried to my local airbrush guy and hit fixed it for me. It was right in the middle of some artwork.

Jeff has some good advice about finding a competent airbrush artist. That is your best bet. A second option is to contact Airbrush Ed or Hootmandingo, both painted for original Big Dog. (Airbrush Ed still does, and will occasionally do outside work), and both of them are members on the Forum
As Jwooky said, the rubber bushings may be worn, allowing your handlebars to move. Another thing that can allow that to happen is when the handgrip controls have been loosened and and inadvertantly rotated it forward. If it is rotated forward, it will position the throttle cable housings to contact the tank. So--if there is no play in the handlebars, loosen the hand controls and rotate the brake lever up until the housings cannot touch the tank.

I feel your pain same thing happen to me. I replaced the handle bar bushings and installed spacers to raise the bars up.

Any automotive paint store can match your paint and put it in a spray can( laquer based) if your comfortable spraying it yourself. Cheapest way to fix other then respray the whole thing. Once it goes beyond the clear your screwed and it’s time to repaint but as I listed a cheaper fix .
