Checking oil level on 05 pitbull? RPM gauge going nuts

I hate to ask this, but how exactly am I suppose to check the oil level on my bike? I had to pry off the fill cap will channel locks(looks like the previous owner did as well) and I found no dip stick on the cap. Are there fill marking on the inside of the fill neck that I'm over looking or is this just a guessing game?

I've been hearing a loud "pinging" sound coming from the engine(I believe the front cylinder). I figure it's a pushrod or lifter, but I wanted to check the oil level. I just started it up and all of a sudden the tach is shooting all the way across the board at idle. Is this something to do with the oil pump? Idle set to low? It hasn't done this before.

I actually found the answer on the oil level problem. I downloaded the manual and it says to fill to the neck. I'm about o post another(even dumber) question in just a second.

tach going crazy??? You mean flashing all the lights n stuff? If so it means the idle is too low. Either it needs to be turned up or the bike is just cold. Cruise mate is GREAT for warm ups!
