CHECK YOU REAR PULLEY BOLTS!!!!!

I had a good scare last night. Fortunately, it happened when I was coming to a stop. One of the bolts on my rear belt pulley had loosened up and worked its way out. As I was coming to a stop I heard a loud "click click click click...." By the time I stopped, the bolt was wedged between the swingarm tubes and dug into the gusset. I couldn't roll the bike forward or backward at that point. It dug a shallow groove into the inside of the swingarm but I imagine if I was going fast it could've been REAL bad. Maybe the bolt would've sheared but maybe not. I think I was just lucky that I happened to be stopping when it got to that point. I had to use pliers to grab the sides of the bolt and twist it back in. A local shop had worked on it a few weeks back and had pulled the pulley. No locktite on the threads! On top of that, they did more damage than anything they "tried" to fix and tried to overcharge me. I'm now removing all the bolts on the pulley and my rotors and applying locktite.

Glad you had a warning before any major disaster :2thumbs:
It seems to me that since the economy has went to shit, so has quality and customer service. :job:

Tru dat! Those mf'ers not only screwed up my bike but charged me for fixing their screw up! Wouldn't release my bike until he was paid 5.5 hrs for a 3 hour job. When I got my bike, the clutch was flapping, my full gas tank empty and my battery was dead. They obviously didn't even test ride it. No apology either when I showed them. So, I stopped payment! The guy was stupid enough to text me that he would kick my ass if he saw me out. Now THAT's customer service!

You should post what shop it is. Let everyone know. Post it on other sites as well. Hope he goes under and gets his ass kicked.

I agree....post the name of the shop so other members will know up front what to exspect from the place if they decide to go there.

The name of the shop is SHOWSTOPPERS. They're not a Big Dog dealer, but they sell a lot of used Big Dogs and try to give the impression that they're a certified service center. They lost that designation a long time ago!

Well, allow me to form one for you! He quoted me 2 hours + parts to replace the tranny seals. Then he was going to charge me 4-1/2 hrs when I came to pick it up. I knew him pretty well so he said to just pay him the next day since it was closing time. After riding about 30 minutes I had a bad grinding noise coming from the primary. I took it back the next day and found they didn't tighten the primary chain. Then the starter wouldn't engage. Turned out they'd replaced my jackshaft bolt with a longer bolt and smaller washer, so small the gear came off the end of the jackshaft!! I'm glad I was there when he pulled the outer primary. I saw immediately that there was a different washer on there and the mechanic admitted changing it. Long story short, they fixed the jackshaft, but charged me for it. When the gear was engaged with the clutch ring gear, it burned up my starter clutch and my tranny started leaking within 100 miles. I'd be time and money ahead if I'd never let them touch it. :bang:

Thanks Dakota. You have some cool pics on your page. I especially like the one with the chick, chopper and jet! I'm going to tear into it this week and replace the seals myself. (Wish me luck!) I just need to get the parts and the 1-7/8 deep socket for the front belt pulley. Like Gasman says...why pay someone else to f*** up your bike? If the owner tries to make good on his threat, not only will he wind up in a world of hurt, I might wind up with his bike shop! Wouldn't that be sweet justice?
