Because I could afford $11500.. and no more. I started at $9500... and he was willing to bargain... is that okay with you.? or should I have done something different...

What I highlighted above gave me the impression that you couldn't afford it in the first place, that's why I asked. And its most certainly ok with me, I was just asking.
I would have just said here's a Mastiff for sale and I had the guy down to $12,500 and left out the part that I couldn't afford it.
