and here is another question; do you take the reading with the cap screwed back in or with the cap just resting on the neck. would make about a 1/2" difference which would translate to about a 1/2 quart.

Question on oil level on '04 Chopper. A friend of mine has this bike and his oil fill is centered in the tank. It has a push in type plug which blows off occasionally and doing the search I found to check the crankcase vent hose. Will do that for sure. Question is how far down in the tank should the oil level be? His is down about 3 inches...

He doesn't have a manual so he has just been wild ass guessing.
Should be 1.5 inches from the bottom of the filler neck. It should hold 3 quarts.

No Dipstick just the push in plug and his filler neck is in the center of the tank (inline with the backbone on the frame). The neck itself is only bout and inch in length.... Tank looks exactly like a softail harley tank just the fill is in a different location...

I have the 05 Ridgeback and the manual sawing its for the Ridgeback b ut I'm guessing they didn't want to modify the manual for just the Ridgeback because it shows the deep side tank and not the shallow bottom feeder oil tank on the Ridgeback. As you said, I had to change oil to find out where the oil level should be with the bike standing level. My fill tube is a long one to the point that a dip stick would be hard to insert and pull out around the passenger peg support. anyway, the oil level for mine is at the bottom of the fill neck and I just made a dip stick out of a six inch section of a tape measurer and keep it in my tool bag. I check my oil cold so I don't fry my arm trying to get back in there. It works out to be about 4 1/4 " from the lowest part of the top edge of the fill neck. That's my story and I'm sticking to it...
