07 BD Bulldog,
bike starts fine but after about 30 secs. the check engine light comes back on. bike still seems to be running fine, speedo is functioning, oil is good.

CEL has 3 universal moves to set it:

1. Wire is out of connector.
2. Connector not connected.
3. Short to ground/signal out of range.

Since this is a black box with telemetry added to it, some components are set in a 'redundant' backup. Thus, the reason the bike still runs.

FULL = Most potential power available is all systems function, no CEL blinking/steady light.
Fail-Safe = Backup, Limp, Low Power mode means> the CEL has detuned the potential. "We took measures because a system is down, here is your moped limp delivery."

Determine the code and repair/replace the part so the (3 wire Variables) have been eliminated, the FULL is back on line, not in 'backup.'

I don't know about your bike but my wife's sporty had that check engine light on every now and then. I replace the O2 sensors and the check engine stopped coming on. I hope the bulb burned out,  Bike runs good and was running good with the light on so I guess its just peace of mind.

Excuse me, Mr. Runner Upper with a suitcase full of clueless? Could you explain how some bikes have 02 sensors and other computer type bikes run without? Sounds like you are jerking off yourself if say I asked you, what the penultimate number was to keep it running, Carlostit?

:whoop:

 D'uh I threw money at it and I got lucky. If I read the code or knew how to retrieve it, D'uh I diddlent. D'uh, you mean dumb luck? D'uh ah HA!

Yes, the 2007 Bulldog is EFI. It was the first year and model to get it.

Go to the S&S web site and download the Protune2 software get the RS232 adapter cable to the S&S EFI controller and connect to your laptop. You can check for DT codes and a few other things but because the EFI controller is LOCKED you won't be able to make any tuning changes. The video shows the gauge screen and there are several other helpful screens as well.

Here is a video I took while riding Bro2s bike diagnosing his old 4000k RPM cutout problem which turned out to be a loose mounted voltage regulator NOT making a good ground to frame connection.

"The ECU takes the following measures to prevent engine damage when the FI, ignition or other system parts have troubles." Found in your generic metric motorcycle manual since 1999, or even earlier if you add Harley's VOES.

Intake air pressure sensor (VOES) ~ Defaults to a method (new math calc as in a single number entered).

02 sensor ~ HAD many signals to control the fuel cut, by how much rich/lean is moving past the 02 sensor. This is called an analog move or the jobber can send in many input signals.

Once the 02 fails, there is no longer many numbers. Only one number is entered. For example, a throttle position sensor has may analog numbers throughout its range. At idle there is only one number coming in. During acceleration, many numbers are inputted so the demand is met equally to the demand of the input.

A WOT, the throttle is pinned open. Again, notice the one number is locked as one. If the throttle is closed at idle, see the concept of one number entering? All other openings bring in a linear number to match rpm, you can't feel the transition hitting full advance.

If the 02 fails, there are no longer many numbers moving from .1v to .9v, or less than a volt: that the 02 works within. Now the single is showing only 1 number throughout the range. The computer bike comes with a backup if a sensor fails or is out of range or no range at all. There is a backup number calculated against rpm. So one number is now used at the 02. The computer recognizes this and defaults to using 1 number (the penultimate number) so the bike is safe to run if you took it to WOT.

The number becomes redundant and since there is no longer an analog signal [many signals] the jobber puts out, the bike codes to a safe-mode. Ignition is so subtle, you can't feel it but HP has dropped off because the analog (many) no longer can compute in a finer fuel feed, so instead, the bike uses a low/mid to mid/hi fuel trim called, 'The Method.'

Since you lost the precision fueling, the computer steps down the fuel/ign into a 'safe for engine' mode so you limp home in that backup ign/fuel setting.

So when you head up a mountain, there is less air, correct? The 02 detects a rich condition and leans out the fuel trim. WATT happens if the 02 fails? Does the computer know how high you are to lean out the bike? No.

Now can you tell the difference it only works off rpm now? Uses the penultimate number over and over?

You've got to be one big frek'inn :job: you claim 'no difference' and the code says different.

Carlost, when you lost in the woods 'Runner Upper Types' come up against the book, I am just the messenger to show guys like you, you don't know jack :toily: Come time to EXPLAIN IT.

I've got your check engine light.... :D:urowned:

Stay focused on the OP not me or come get some.:read:

X2

Good advice. This is the only way to know. Hook up a laptop and read the fault. Stop guessing, and don't listen to the other non-sense above.

Check the idle RPM...if it's too low I think the Check Engine light may eventually get set to come ON also could be lower oil pressure due to low idle causing it to come ON.

The idle RPM is controlled by the IAC (Idle Air Controller). It is a stepper motor driven air valve that controls the volume of air allowed into the air idle circuit of the throttle body. If the motor is getting weak or if it can't position correctly due to carbon build up then the idle RPM can't be controlled.

What I said had nothing to do with you insulting me or name calling but that is what you want junior lets get ready to rumble. For now go fuck you mama while I take care of your wife and sister.

I don't jerk off I have your wife and mama and sister do it for me. For an asshole like you who doesn't own a bike and has been building his own for the past 10 years one you sure talk a lot of shit. I don't need codes, I know from experience Junior that sensors go bad, that is why we have Sven lights I mean idiot lights   to warn others of shit heads like you.

Sure I throw money at it because I have the money and I would love to meet you so that I can spend a little money on you. I promise to have your idiot light come on and stay light forever. I will rearrange your teeth and pay for a visit to the Hospital to have a team of doctors pull my foot out of your ass.:lol:  I ride bikes and your mama and wife not books, I works on bikes not equations, I resolve issues not codes and if I can't I make the mother fucker work I take a big fucking hammer beat the Sven (shit) out of it so no one can fix it. If you have any ball call me so we can get you health care taken care of. I call it the Carlos Care of Assholes like Sven. My number is 956-693-3563

Tell you Wife and Mama I said hi and that I am due for a jack off they know me by Carlostit I guess they told you about me :lol:
