charging problem maybe?

After a ride Sunday after my last stop the battery was dead so I push started it rode it home and charged the battery.It seams to be holding but my question is there a easy way to check the charging system?

Agm battery need to be charged with a 2amp charger for min 2hrs.Don't try to charge them with a wall transformer (tender) If you are going to start trouble shooting then go buy a decent digital volt meter.Good battery should have a surface charge 12.6-12.8 volts.I change mine out after two years.When engine running 14.2 avg output to battery.Make sure you check ground at starter bolt.

Here my take If the bike would not crank but after the push start ran fine I would have to say the charging system should be ok...... look close at batt and connections.....starter as well... IMO ......If You need any help let me know im just up the road from Ya.

Circuit Breakers has power on both side so I guess its ok.Running or not batt shows 12v I even rev motor to about 2000rpm still no change.Batt contacts are tight.What should I check next?

Remove stator plug, start engine and measure AC voltage across pins. Is stator output 16 to 20 volts per 1000 RPMs?

YES>Replace voltage regulator. Retest.
No>With engine OFF measure resistance across stator pins.Is resistance more
than 0.5 Ohms?

Yes>Replace stator/rotor. Retest.
No>With engine OFF, measure resistance from stator pin to engine ground. Good?

Yes>Replace stator/rotor. Retest
No>Reconnect the two-pin stator plug and retest stator/rotor.If low voltage condition still exists, replace stator/rotor. Retest.

Above stated in 08 diag chart

ok the voltage from the voltage reg is 0 when running so I guess its the voltage reg.My bike is still under warranty so I may just take it to a dealer.Pissed I saw where you said you live close to me what dealer do you use?I have been taking mine to Britt Motorsports in Wilmington but they just checked my vr recall and said it was fine and they forgot to order my strut bolts so I have to take it back so maybe I will try another dealer.

Its nice to trouble shoot but when its still under warranty i wood not fuck with it. Find a good dealer

As i understand the VR recall. it is to check the date code on the VR AND replace the circuit breaker with the fuse. Why did they leave the circuit breaker :confused: :confused:

I am not sure why the cb was left I am really questioning there service dept now.There very nice there but that dont keep me running huh

And I agree Kam... that is what I did. Left the CB, put in the 40 amp fuse... carry a short cut wire to bypass CB if needed.


But here is what they do. They replace the CB with a power block stud
