No one makes a different pulley for a late model BD that I know of so I made one myself. Stock is 34T so I started with a 32 tooth on my bagger and finally ended up with a 31. To do it you have to take a stock harley type pulley and do some machine work to it. It is by far one of the best mods that can be done to a BD. On my bagger with the 31T it runs about 3,000 rpm at 72mph. Most people would be fine with the 32T as belt length and clearance issues can come up with the 31T. If you are interested and feel comfortable with changing the pulley yourself I can probably get one made up for you for a few $$.

What gear you in at 70 & 3k?

I was just out yesterday and thinking about this cause right now at 70 I'm 3.5k in 4th and like 2500 in 5th. I'd like to be at 3k at 68-70 rather than in between 4th and 5th cause I end up having to shift a lot.

If I lived up north the gearing on the stock BD would be fine as most speed limits are 55-65 but considering we have a lot of two lane routes I ride with speed limits of 60-70 here it makes some sense.

I dont care about torque of speed just want to not be inbetween gears between 68-72mph. As I find myself switching to 5th and end up going 75 instead of 65-68. I might even do fine with one tooth, just 33T. It's pretty close.

You could always put an auto clutch in if your getting too old to shift, like Tapio did

I used my left hand for a while, it got strong. No need for autoclutch anymore!

I'm curious about this and have been for years. I'm between 5th and 6th on the highway. Most everyone does 80mph around here and I'm a bit high in 5th but then lugging it in 6th. Any idea on price??

I have used cheap harley pulley and a baker pulley on mine. Not sure that it makes a difference either way as I don't put a ton of miles on my bike. I have put around 6,000 miles on it since the pulley change.

I use a 32 tooth pulley that I bought from someone who didn't like it. I forgot who it was but it served the purpose and it was already machined. The one you get from Baker has a lip on the outer side, which is what you have to have machined off. I wanted about 300 more RPM to cruse in 3rd & 4th around town and not have the 650 woods cam lobe ride while riding at 35 or 40 MPH. I use the same belt but it is maxed out or close to it. Pulls a little harder because of the higher RPM's which puts it in the power band quicker and away you go.

I finally got it and I love it! Works great with the 585 cam, a lot quicker acceleration and I am at 3,000 rpm at 75 mph now, perfect! Big thanks to ksmike for getting me set up!

What was the RPM's before the change at 75mph? and what is the difference at 2000 RPM's?
I like the lightening holes in it for weight reduction

Well, since we talked about this already, I'll refresh your memory, before at 3000 RPM I was at 80 mph, at 2,000 I don't know cause my tach light is out at 2,000 rpm, remember also that big dog tachs are only approximate, since you don't really know where you're at between the lights, thanks for asking though, good question bro!

WTH, you need to get that fixed, but to stay on subject, wouldn't down shifting into 5th at 75mph put you at 3500 RPM's and more into the power band of the 117?

Ok, well maybe, but from 0-60 I'm gonna blow your doors off!

Riding myself I can spin the rear tire in 1st and 2nd, can you spin it in 3rd now?

Basically 6 the gear is useless for you.

I use 6th gear all the time around 55-60 riding 2 up, and if you learn to listen to what the motor is telling you, you'll know when to down shift before you lug it.
Its like mowing grass, when the blades are spinning at the right RPM's they sing to ya, music to my ears it is

I like the 2 too 2500 rpm range. 3000 is humming.
