Chain Conversion

Chain conversion has taken place. Went with a 23t pbi with .500 offset ( I ordered the wrong sprocket, should have been a 24t). Rear sprocket was a Drag specialty 48t 1/4 dished offset. Sprockets aligned perfectly. Regina o ring chain. Clearance issue on bottom of from pulley cover and shaved until chain cleared. I must say, this should have been done long ago. Throttle response is much better, and the feel of the torque transfer is improved. It's amazing how much shock the belt absorbs. In 3rd or 4th roll on I can feel the rear tire trying to break out on rippled or slightly bumpy pavement. 2nd gear hole hole shot is deadly. I will be going to a 24t front and a rear 49t to eliminate the clearance isse on bottom of pulley cover. With the 23t/48t at a true 60mph the speedo shows 65-66. With the 24/49 I should cut that in half and only be 3-4mph off. These bikes run so much better geared slightly lower. Power band is more usable without having to downshift and the pull from a roll on is unbelievable. Conversion cost $260.00. Bye Bye Gates. Keep ya posted

CHOPSTEAK: Don't mean to sound stupid but did you go to a belt or chain, reads as though you went to the Regina o ring chain but you refer to "how much torque the belt absorbs", is that chain referred to as a belt? Pls help me understand, I'd love to go to something smoother than have a jerking chain at low speeds.

Going to the chain changed the entire feel of the power transfer. The belt will always have a very slight stretch effect therefore soaking up the feel of when you roll the throttle and feeling the bike pull through the gears. I noticed immediately how much better the response was when rolling into the fuel. Chain noise is non existent. No difference in sound. Can't even hear the chain, could be because of the chain I went with. It's amazing how much more powerful the bike feels being geared slightly lower than stock. Power band is more usable and eliminates the need of down shifting in some cases. I also like the way the bike pulls straighter when the tire breaks out. Before, the rear wheel would drift out to the right and come back around. The chain eliminated most of that. And from an aesthetics point you can see more of the rear rim than before. Stock rear pulley was nearly same size as the rim itself. I will try and get some pics up soon fellows.

Love it!!! Let's see some pics!!

Keep us updated on how the 23/48 combo works. I am curious as to your tach reading around the 60-70mph range in 4th and 5th. I would like to get my bike geared lower to get 5th gear about 3k at 70'ish as thats where I like to do my cruising

Chain conversion is on the list! Hopefully this winter.

Before I started I wanted to see what the ratio between the fron pulley and rear pulley was. It was just a hair shy of 2 to 1. Meaning the front pulley made 2 complete revolutions and the rear wheel making just barely shy of one complete revolution. Makes sense because the stock front pulley is 34 teeth and the rear is 65. Currently with the 23t sprocket turning a 48 rear i'm not quite 2 to 1. I'm about 450 rpm higher than stock and 5-6 mph off on the speedo. When I go 24 49 that should be a tick higher than 23/48. I should be only 250-300 higher in rpm than stock and 3-4 mph off. we will see. Totally different machine with the 23/48 and the chain. More usable power, broader power band. love it

Why move to the 24/49 if you are pleased with the 23/48, for highway crusing I assume? I wonder if these would align on a 330 tire.
