Cause for alarm?

Spotted this in my facebook feed (see pic). Buddy of mine who owns a custom shop expressing concern about Big Dog S&S Engines. I reached out to him and asked for more info.. he tells me the following:

Ok, 04-06 had severe valve spring issues. They would break and lock up the engine. I need to listen to it. This 06 in the pic obviously never had the primary pulled apart to make sure the bolts were secure. So what I would say is we need to service it soon and see if she's good or not.

He estimates that this will cost a good 2-3K to repair if my 06 K9 has the same issue. Not seeing anything obvious in the forums re: this. How concerned should I be? Just bought this bike a couple months ago.

there is a reason why breaking the primary and changing the fluid is part of the normal 2500 mile maintenance. but, that being said, have not heard of anybody's chain being that far out of adjustment. with it that loose, I believe I would also make sure the transmission mounting bolts were tight and in order.

One of the old ones.
I have never heard of such a thing about S&S valve springs. Failing valve springs for or two years? I doubt it. Find out his source for this. Was there a technical report or what? Prolly he’s been talking to a mechanic for Indian motorcycles or something.
That photo is just one you saw somewhere, not your bike right? What’s that got to do with you?
If you are worried——go take off your primary inspection plate and check that primary chain. Adjust if needed. When you determine it’s good, go ride.

Well that primary chain was probably never adjusted....

Although that has absolutely nothing to do with S&S valve Springs. Although I suspect his comment is geared towards the TP heads which would be 05-06 Big Dogs, now those are more prone to some wearing valves than S&S although some folks out there with more miles than most will ever put on a dog with them stock so do as you wish. Your 06 has TP heads not S&S. Plenty of topics on that here you could read them all and after a week you still be going there's alot!

Are you currently having issues?
Are the possibility of problems keeping you awake @ nite?

If the answer to these questions is no, do the normal maintence and ride. When and if you have issues, this place exists to help diagnose and fix whatever problem you encounter.......oh, and its FREE.
Like a wise man once said; "Why Pay someone to fk up your bike, when you can do it for free".
Ride it!

70,500 miles on my 05 Ridgeback and never had a valve problem. Everything in the engine is OEM.
