I'll look at the weather for information everyday but the forecast doesn't control my decisions like it once did. In part, I think Hurricane Katrina changed my behavior. We packed up all the pets, loaded the truck and boat with valuables, and then decided not to leave. Unpacked everything, went back in the house, and Stephanie slept like a rock. I woke up at 3 am and the wind was blowing one way and then 9 am and it was blowing the other way. The hurricane ripped my gates off the fence, blew down a tree, and when the electricity went out I started the generator. We ran the generator for a week and the one time I went to get gas I felt so ripped off at $3 a gallon! By the end of the week, I had pulled my tree back up with the truck, replaced shingles, cleaned the yard, and been back to work.

We could have gone to Jackson MS where they lost electricity for a week, had just as many tornados, and been miserable about the traffic and heat. Just to come back home in a week to a mess, spoiled food, etc. You could say "You risked your life, your wife's life, and put the pets at risk". I just don't believe that anymore. My wife reminds me that I risk my life everyday I ride my bike and I just acknowledge that.

Well, that's my thought for the day and I am sticking to it.

Still like the idea of a West , Mid and East coast meet on the same day or weekend .
Members from all over the country can travel to the closest destination .
We will all be there- but at 3 different locations . Big Dog Biker coast to coast get together.

Just another thought...
The one location idea will probably only get the locals and a few long distance riders.
I still think 3+ locations will yield the best results as the reality is most riders will not ride over 300 miles a day and many will not leave their local area. Honestly, how many are willing to burn up a lot of vacation time to attend a 1-2 day event 300 - 2500 miles away in 92 degree+ riding weather? Having lived in Kansas for a few years the 90+ is a generous figure. Gets even hotter in a tent...

Perhaps a State event will provide the best results and get more owners involved, perhaps two locations in the large states of Tx, CA, AK and FL, with other countries having their own events. Call it World Big Dog Day or something similar. At the end of the weekend everyone start posting about their awesome weekend, the rides they took, the pics, the new friends made and so on.

These are all good ideas. How about one main event in Wichita and for the guys who can't do that trip they could orginize events in their areas. It's 1000 mile trip for me. My wife dosent ride but is excited about going anyhow. We have never been out west so we plan on putting the bike in a trailer and going to the rally then picking some other places to see. How ever it works out we will try to be there.

Dunno how many, but I'm planning to screw my summer holiday in Finland, fly to USA, ride from SW Florida to Wichita, then back to Finland. Gonna cost me deeply, not to mention how happy wife will be when I disappear for a few weeks in the middle of summer! Well worth it though!

Whoa whoa......can't we all just get along? Lol....I can easily see several meetings for a reunion. Lots of folks can't or won't go to certain places so why not have several regional's at once? Just need folks in their respective areas to step up and take the bull by the nuts...... As long as we get together, it really doesn't matter to me where.

I like this idea. Everyone who is up for the 'main event' go and those that aren't, do something closer by. Those of us around here already get together for smaller regional stuff, I'm interested in meeting other folks that I normally wouldn't.

I agree that KS will be stinking hot in the Summer. If I was voting I'd pick Spring or Fall but I understand those with kids wanting to do Summer.

Depending on when it is, I might be able to trailer the bike to Wichita, KS. Just need everyone to decide when. Maybe start another poll for dates and let everyone vote?
