Ok... so tonight at the bar me, House, and his boy Jason had a debate on the no OBS and no bracing on the open belt drive setup for these big inch motors. He says at least run a race brace. That without it, you can fuck up the bolts that go from the motor plate to the motor... fuck them all up over time

This has to be up the alley of Sul, Al, and a few of the other big power guys... whats the deal? Give me the low down.

Do they make it for our bikes?

Is there any reason I should be looking for one? Should I be worried about it later in life?

I had one on my old fxr and sul is right they don't make one for our motors or my offset in particular. They are pricey and your drivetrain better be perfect before putting one of these on because they will bring any alignment issue up front in a hurry. I honestly can't say I have ever seen one on a fat tire custom. And as far as the belt drive goes I would argue that point due to the solid motor plates used. If you can flex one of these then you must have some smokin power. Outbord bearing support does absolutely nothing to add support to the system its simply what drag racers use to stop belt flex especially on launches. But even with all that said it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to look at it and believe that it would provide some support to an evo drivetrain. And if they made one for my bike it would have been on there already.

A outer bearing support on a open primary will eliminate stress on the main shaft bearings and seals over the lifetime by eliminating stress on them. It does take alot of HP to start to flex anything in a BDM motor/trans mount compared to a Harley mount with the same HP. A outer bearing support on the primary would be fine for for a stock to mild built motor.

I believe that at one time, Carlini made a brace for a Baker RSD set up of some kind but I'm not sure of anything specific to BDM's.

Anything that increases the stiffness of your drive train / chassis is a plus. These big ass engines push the limits especially when you go hoppin em up even more. If you run an open primary on on one of these DSSC set ups, I'd even run an outboard clutch carrier bearing set up just to be able to handle the additional torque loads on the clutch, tranny input bearing and of course the mainshaft.

Al... I knew you would have great input. If I would have had such info lat night I would have said that.

So bottom line is that our motor/tranny chassis setups don't require such a brace. That our solid motor plate setups vs the rubber mounted motors is why its not needed. That makes perfect sense.
