Pulled my heads and noticed top 3/8" or so of both cylinders had a ring of carbon buildup (like crispy burnt oil) - also had some similar buildup inside both intake valve bodies above the valve - sorry don't have pictures just yet. Motor has ~2400miles on it. Is this normal???

yea its normal on the valves. could add some techron to cut it.

the build up on the cylinders is from the oversized jugs. the pistons are about .055 shy of flush.

Yeah it's normal to have some burnt gunk in there. On the valves, if you're running short pipes or have an exhaust leak it can be worse.

Thanks for setting my mind at ease guys - stay tuned - John Sachs is doing my heads and I've got a 0.600 cam and RB Racing 2-1 exhaust on the way for an '08 Pitbull. Not sure how much of a GI-Joe grip I'll need but will post all the details when it's time. Thanks for everyone's contributions to make this site such a fantastic resource. Cheers!
