Carbarator Jet change

I have a BDM 2007 chopper, stock 117CI except for hooker troublemakers I just put on. I'm looking to see what I will need to change the jets to. I called hooker and they said call big dog, called them and they said I should call hooker. WTF? :argue: I know many of you are way more knowledgeable than I am and I'm looking for some advice. I'm in Wisconsin where the altitude is 650 to 900 above sea level. Any & all help will be appreciated.

Another round please
Put them on, ride it and see how it runs. What air cleaner you running? May have to up the main, or maybe just adjust carb. Tell us about the test ride.

Whatever your bike wants. Go buy a 31,32,33 intermediate and 74,76,78 main. A majority arre running 31/76 so that would be a good place to start. Take the bike out and keep it in the intermediate slot. Say down the highway at 2500 rpm for a minute and pull in the clutch and kill the motor. Coast to a stop and check the plugs. The porcelain should not be bright white but have a little color. If it's bright white then it's to lean, if it's dark it's to fat. The main jet should pull all the way to redline without hesitation or a stumble.

Plan b is a dynotune.

go with a .031 intermediate jet and .078 main.it should run good.also look in the how to section of this forum there is great info on carb adjustments.

yep what Vega said. Neither Hooker nor BDM can tell you - only your bike can tell you.

If it helps I punched the plugs on stock exhaust
and tried different sizes
found the bike liked 31/76
probably 2% on the rich side
but it was bad with stock 29.5/74
which was too lean
rather error to richer
next will install filter and better exhaust
start again
stock to 31/76 is a 5% change if math is right
but as everyone says everyone is different
my little experence is one step up is the most my wanted
and thats almost too much with slight mods to exhaust

Before you go out and buy an assortment of jets, test ride your Dog and see how she runs. Then, if you feel you need to adjust, see what you have in your carb right now. I think stock is 28/74. Myself and others have experienced a "stumble" when running around 2750 rpms. This is the range where one jet stops and the other pics up. I went up a couple sizes on the intermediate to a 33, and no more stumble. Lots of reading on here if search the threads.:eek::cheers:

Thanks Brad, I do get a "stumble", I think the best route for me to go is a dynotune. Thats the direction I'm going, then I won't screw it up and I'll be sure it's right.

Magoo,
Changing the jets is fairly simple. Look under the "how to" and I think GasMan did one with pics that anyone could follow. I was running a 31/76 and went up to a 33/78. Raywood also has some information on changing out the air jet that could also help fix that stumble. Jet's are a lot cheaper than the stealership and a dyno, but what ever works for you.:cheers:
