Carb leak at Accelerator Pump

I've read on this forum that fuel leaking from the CARB accelerator push rod is somewhat normal, well mine leaks every time before start up when I twist the throttle several times before starting. Is there anyway to stop this? I rebuilt the pump a month or so ago and don't recall a seal or O-ring. It doesn't leak much but just enough to ruin your freshly shined billet. Again, any help is appreciated.....

sounds like you need to go back into the pump assembly and look closely at the diaphragm, and two o-rings around the ball checks. Also consider the condition of the carb body and diaphragm cap.

Thanks Ringo....how does the fuel flow around that area, is that chamber filled with fuel or is fuel only on the bottom side of the diaphram...just trying to figure out where the fuel that comes out of the push rod comes from. I replaced both o-rings when I installed the new kit. I'll tear it down again and figure it out....Thanks

do not twist the throttle several times before startup. Your accelerator pump is loading up the engine with gas. Not good. pull the enrichener until the dog starts and then push back down.

All that said. you still may have a leaky accel pump diaphram. watch out for springs and ball bearings. Look on S&S website for carb blow up

Man I rebuilt mine I installed that bugger upside down once and it was pissing out of the pump. I reinstalled correctly an had the same problem as you are having now. I tore it down again only this time I used 3000 grit sand paper on the carb body to clean it all up and I used a super slim small price of metal (almost like a shim) to make sure that bastard diaphragm seated properly in the grove, after I did that I had no more problems.

That's opposite of what everyone else says on here. According to the owner's manual 2 twist of the throttle no enricher when hot. 2 twists and possibly use the enricher when its cold although I usually don't have too.

QUICK START GUIDE -2004 OWNER’S MANUAL [ GENERAL INFORMATION 1.0 ]
All 2004 Big Dog motorcycles come equipped with electronic compression releases to aid in the starting
procedure with the 107 cu.in. engine and the optional 117 cu.in. engine.

COLD STARTING PROCEDURE:

Make certain the motorcycle is in neutral.
Turn fuel petcock to the ON position.
Turn ignition switch to the ON position.
Depress handlebar ENGINE STOP on switch to the RUN side.
Note: The handlebar ENGINE STOP switch defaults to the OFF every time the Ignition Switch is turned off.
Prime the motor with two (2) twists of the throttle.
Lift up on carburetor enrichener.
Depress start button for no more than five (5) seconds at a time until the engine starts.
IMPORTANT: IF THROTTLE IS OPENED WHILE ENGAGING THE STARTER, COMPRESSION WILL INCREASE
DRAMATICALLY CAUSING THE STARTER TO KICK BACK AND POSSIBLY PRODUCE A STARTER RELATED FAILURE.
Keep the engine running at fast idle or 1500 RPM using the throttle.
Depress the enrichener back to the pre-start position when the engine has achieved a constant and steady speed.
If the enrichener is left in the starting position, the spark plugs may foul, causing poor engine performance and or failed engine
start.

HOT ENGINE START:
Allow engine to warm approximately 3 to 5 minutes before riding.
NOTE: A battery discharges approximately 1% per day. If your motorcycle is not ridden for a month, the battery may not
retain enough charge to start your motorcycle. For the occasional rider, using an approved trickle charger is recommended.
Same procedure as cold start except do not prime the engine with two (2) twists of the throttle and do not engage the
carburetor enrichener.

ok then maybe its my time on the fourm because 3-4 years ago it was as I said above. But its cool. Start anyway you want. I know that I have to squirt the Pan but the Dog I never do and rarely use the enrichiner
