Thanks for the replies, but I am not installing a Dakota digital. I am replacing with another exact type of speedo from big dog that I bought second hand.

If it is the exact same speedo...you take the speedo pod lose (look under bracket for 2 socket screws). then disassemble the pod by removing the screw under the pod. Tach ring and speedo coms out...unplug and swap out after loosening screw that hold tach ring/speedo together. Hope this helps. Good luck! BTW...if you are also replacing the POD...I believe you will have to remove the tank.

Thanks! I am just replacing the elctronics not the housing. What do you mean
by replacing POD? Not familiar with that

The pod is the conical shaped housing that holds the tach ring and speedometer. It is "pointed" on one end...which faces towards the ground at about a 45 degree angle...and the "flat" side faces up...which is your speedo and tach ring. It comes apart about .5 inch down the side once you 1) remove the pod from the bracket and 2) remove screw on pod that is currently hidden by the bracket.

Ok thanks. So I can replace the guts without having to remove the pod which I would need to remove tank if it came to it?

I have a 2007 Bulldog and when you remove the two mounting screws the pod or speedometer will come off. One other screw holds the guts in the housing. Just did this a couple of days ago with the tank on. You can then pull everything apart..
