can a tender kill a battery?

had the bike on a tender as i did not ride for a two weeks. Intially it started off with the amber light on (i.e. in need of a charge) then after a day or so went green (i.e. battery charged) then after a few days nothing showing on the tender. I went to start the bike and a loud click was all i got. bike wouldn't start. jumped the starter right to the battery and same thing.....click.
I tried jumping to my truck battery and got the same deal. The battery showed lower voltage (about 11). I charged the battery with a different charger until it was showing just over 13 volts. tried again and it started right up. Rode for about 30 minutes. Shut the bike down when i stopped by my buddies house for about 20 minutes. Start up with no problem and headed home. let it sit for a few hours and tried to start again and click. same shit all over again.

did the tender f up the battery..............or did the tender crap out from the battery. either way the bike isn't starting. do i need a new battery or is there something else I'm missing?

Here's my story.

My Battery Tender Jr. did not work well with my new Interstate battery. It would stay on solid greem lite. I went back to my other better charger, name? I don't like the BT Jr. It would not go into float mode and acted funny. It's almost new 1 yr old, but it ain't right for some reason. I would look for other better chargers for the AGM style batteries. It worked okay for my car in storage but I don't trust it on my Dog!

Your battery sounds like it's going bad if not already! A good battery after off the charger an hour should read about 12.8 volts standing.

yes..............something didn't seem right with the tender. the guy i bught the bike from said the battery was changed out at least once. it's an 08 so i don't think its got more than a year or so on it...........and it came from down south so i'm guessing it was ridden year round???

So I'd double check your inline charger fuse personally. I've popped a cpl for some reason or other causing the tender not to keep it charged.

my ORIGINAL battery is still in the bike and from july, '09 until july, '10 it was on a battery tender jr. and NEVER ridden. end of july, '10 started right up and has yet to fail me, even with 2-3 miles between stops. can't complain about the tender.

I just decided I had a bad tender. I kept having battery problems about every 9 months. After I went to the Braille it got worse and one day it wouldn't turn over.
I put a new tender on it and now I can leave it off for a week and it starts no problem and speed works.
With the old tender my speedo would not work a lot and during cold months it would turn over hard

I would try to stay away from jumping bike batts with car batts.....When I was home last I purchased two new HD Softail batts for two of my bikes...one being my Ridgeback. They are High CCA batts and reasonable...Dog seems to like it...all my bikes are plugged into batt tenders all the time and I have been having good results.

I have a braille its almost a year old, when I got back from Sturgis I let it sit for a day, now it won't start and it was showing 20 volts this morning and last I checked it showed 44 volts after I took it out of the bike, turns out it was a bad battery in the meter now show 10.56 volts. I think the VR is the culprit. They are sending me a replacement.

Keep all my bikes on Battery Tender JR'S. Never had a problem, they are always ready to go. You might have had a bad Tender. Don't see many of those. I'd try another Tender , they are cheap enough.
