Sounds like you got it all covered, I did very much the same when I went with the woods 630. Nice write up Carlos.Doc, call Bob Wood and he will provide you with the Springs to match the cam. I Run the Wood W6HF 650 lift and the Springs for that cam. They are the W188-1200-10L Spring. The cam is or was back on 9/2/08 $350 for the cam and $280 for the Springs. You will have to increase the compression in order for this cam to kick ass. The T-Shirt was free LOL Wood Performance (205) 525-4949
I had my heads done by (WFO) Larry's Motorcycle and Machine Inc. I don't have all the details but he did Port and Polished the heads, decked them .030 and installed brass guides, 2.02 intake Valves and 1.610 Exhaust Valve. WFO Larry 708-598-3050
Along with that I used the cometic Gaskets to reduce the piston deck clearance by .023 without having to cut the cylinders. The Stock Head gaskets are .043 compressed and base gasket if .020. The cometic gaskets are .030 head and .010 base which reduces the piston deck clearance by 0.023 with out decking the cylinders. That and the decking of the heads 0.030 gave me the compression I was looking for. Using a compression calculator that gave me about 10.4 Compression which is where I wanted to be and be able to use pump gas.
I do believe that with all the above you will have to re-map your Fuel injection system.
You might be better off just installing the 585 cam like other have done on here an not bother with springs or other engine work. If you need to cometic gasket part # here they are C9931 for the S&S Super Side Winder 4 1/8 Head Gasket 0.030 (2-PK) and C9935 for the S&S Super Side Winder 4 1/8 Base Gasket 0.010 (2-PK) about $66 bucks.
Hope that helps
Carlos
lol that's funny.Wow Carlos! You failed to mention how much postage would be for Doc though!Great info!!
So your saying if I just do the s&s 585 I wound need to anything else but just install the cam? Would the woods 590 need all that stuff done too? Yours is 650? Damn i bet that is a monster.Sounds like you got it all covered, I did very much the same when I went with the woods 630. Nice write up Carlos.![]()
Lol, good oneCarlos have you dyno'd the build. I would like to see the torque curve on that stump puller
I just happened to talk to S&S today on this subject. They said if you have the flat top pistons, and something in the nose cone. I don't remember what he said, but the valve train can handle a .600 cam. However, they don't recommend running the .600 in a 117ci. They said it was an awesome cam for the 107, but the tuning curve on the 117 is different. For the money, the 585 is the best way to go, unless your willing to fork out the bucks for the major changes, and jump to the .650 cam.So your saying if I just do the s&s 585 I wound need to anything else but just install the cam? I can't really comment of the woods 590 since I don't know anything about it. However, Bob Wood should be able to give you a run down of whether you will need springs or just the cam.So your saying if I just do the s&s 585 I wound need to anything else but just install the cam? I believe the 585 actually made my 117 a little smoother. Still not as smooth as my 107 but I'm happier. Between that and new bearings in the transmission I have a brand new ride.I just happened to talk to S&S today on this subject. Sniper did this. They actually welded the inside of the heads and reshaped them, bored the carb, and added the thunder jet. He's running a .090 main jet, and I believe a .035 intermediate. The bike is pushing 145 hp, and doesn't feel radical when ridding it. You just need to hang on when you crank the throttle.
With all the being said, and you knowing the facts, that Sniper is about 50 lbs. heavier than Brian, ridding a stock 09 117 K9. They were at the track, and Sniper ran a 119MPH and I forget the seconds, and Brian ran 116 MPH and 4 seconds behind Sniper.
Was Sniper's $5000 spent well? I don't think so.
If you need more HP between your legs, drop a 585 in it and run it.
I Agree!I believe the 585 actually made my 117 a little smoother. Still not as smooth as my 107 but I'm happier. Between that and new bearings in the transmission I have a brand new ride.
Now I just gotta get rid of the top end noise...

I agree with Tapio on the valve noise, maybe try just 50W syn instead of 20-50I believe the 585 actually made my 117 a little smoother. Still not as smooth as my 107 but I'm happier. Between that and new bearings in the transmission I have a brand new ride.
