can i remove the cam cover on a 117 without removing the pushrods and lifters???dont want to move the camshaft...i have a bad gouge in my camcover and want to buff it out on a bench buffer...

No, the cover has 2 dowel pins to locate it, and when you remove it the valve springs that are under tension will push the end of the cam down. The one end of the cam is supported by the cam cover

Well you can actually remove it..you just cant get it back on without taking adjusting them down.

I've gotten it off plenty of times without loosening it. But since you can't get it back on I just loosen them a touch. Don't loosen them too much cause when you pull the cover off the Cam may come with it then your tappets fall out and it's bitch to get everything back together. Done that a time or two...
