are you tring to remove the cam cover ? you can use a bolt threaded into holes that hold timming cover on, to use as a holding piont. but you may have to relieve push rod tention on the cam by backing off the push rods

Your saying to install bolts into front cover
I am saying there is no front cover anymore
Just the large cover sems like they did away with it
I guess you must just tap it loose after relieving push rods
I must put a new cam in this smog motor
I can only go to 585 because of single spring
otherwise I will be changing sprins and pullig jugs to cut .025
Its to new to get that silly ( i think)

Are you saying that they don't have a cover plate on the motor? Must be a new change. I have an '05 and once you remove the cover plate, I used a dent puller (slide hammer) and placed a bolt in the end of it that fits the threaded hole underneath the cam cover plate. It took several slides of the dent puller, but it finally came loose. :spank::spank:

If you look at the pic on my first thread you can see it
I was shocked when I got the bike
The new harleys are fake coover but they don't need it
I guess it must come off farily easy
When you purchase a new cam can't you use the old gear?
it's still new 700 miles and its the correct diameter

first off new HDS are twin cam thay use a cam plate to support the cams the EVOs are not the same thay support the came with the cam cover,, if the newer bikes have done away with the timming cover to pull the cam cover off with then there must be a special tool used,, is that the 111.. I wouldnt hit on it..must be a puller made for that job,, you do have the push rods lose right..

I know Harley is twin cam
I replace cams in my 09 Dyna

I was saying they also did away with the cover nuff said
How can you make a puller
I machined alot of tools and know how stuff comes apart
i was just inquiring before i tackle job
cover has no jack poits as I can see
Was hoping someone tackled this before
no big deal I gues I will attack blindly and with force
just kidding
Wonder why they did away with it unless it doesn't need to be removed like manual says
Think they would update manual
ps it is a S&S 117 engine

being it is a crank sensor there was no need for a timing cover. i used a rubber mallet and it came off easy enough.

using the oem cam gear saves you from having to measure gear lash with the pinion gear.

wait till you go into the primary. those covers are fake also!

Thanks a bunch Marv
I figured it had to tap off but was not sure
I took the primary off already
and laughed at my self when it said clutch adj. on other side
There sure is alot of fake covers on all bikes anymore
Cam looks fairly easy if not very easy
I did get disapointed when I found sinle springs ith none roller rockers
S&S said it lightined up the valve train and worked for smaller cams
i will have to install the 585 cam
that's what S&S says will wok with current springs
They said cam woul elp alot
I know when I changed cams in My super glide it was major difference
thanks again for help
Nicer to check before cutting !!!!!!
