Cam Cover Gasket for a S&S 117

Awwhhhh.... I have spent all afternoon looking for and reading about the Cam Cover Gasket... I ended up totally confused :confused:

For starters I cannot find the right Part#, they are all very similar 25225-70 A,B,C,X and more... Then to make it more confusing.. there are different thicknesses!!! 0.031" - 0.060" :confused::bang:

Will the thickness of the Gasket affect the Cam´s End Play??? I am going to measure the old cam with the new one and if there is a match I will go ahead... if not... I will leave the stock one in there. :bang::bang::bang:

I have also read here about several members not getting the right Gasket the first time!

Those who already have done it, HEEELP!!! :bang:

I just used the one Mcgroom sent me with the cam, it didn't have the seal bead on it, just plain old gasket. It looked like the one in Bowhunter's write up.

Bowhunter has installed several cam now and has used the 25225-70C without issues. He replied to your post as to what he used in the past, so why not go with the gasket he recommended. On the other hand I used the one with the red bead on it (like in the picture you posted) and that was like 5 years ago and I am still going strong with no issues. Stop reading between the lines Franko and just do it :lol:

Thing is I´ve been Google´ing it (the 25225-70C) without exact results!!! similar but not quite the "C" :D

S&S (31-2031 Gasket, Cam cover, Black, 1970-99 BT) That's the part number of the wrapping for my gasket. Keep in mind my scoot is a 2008 mastiff.. :2thumbs:

The BEST cam cover gasket available is a FOAM BACKED METAL gasket. :2thumbs: Cometic and several others handle them. Just be sure you get the early style with the little window in the lower left side. If you use the later gasket, without the window,you'll be pissing oil out the breather. :bang:

As I wrote in the other thread - the gasket for the 124 S&S will work.
I went through 2 wrong gaskets from S&S or Big Dog dealers :down:.
Being in Europe it is more complicated to get parts from the US.....
