Cam change revisited.

I just ran my K 9 today with the stock cam. It's very quiet, doesn't pull like it did.
On the bright side it does idle through traffic nice and smooth, the bucking is gone at idle speeds, and the power has shifted down noticeably from 3k to the 1500 range.
I'll be looking at the 585, woods and Jackie cans now.

I run a 656V2 Red Shift cam in my 2007 Bulldog, EFI and absolutely love it. Makes 131tq at 1500-1800 rpms and is a torque monster all the way through.
I do run a Thundermax wide band system instead of the S&S VFI and I did modify the compression to fit the cam. John Sach's did my head work/valves and milled the heads for everything to work together and it has been a great package to include the exhaust..
It is not jerky and pulls hard in any gear at any rpm or is as passive as you want it to be. Fuel mileage is dependent on where I want my AFR set to...Cruise, brute power or anything between.
Set your bike up for all the components to work together and enjoy it..

That sounds bad ass Neil! That's what I'm talkin' about. Not looking for quiet. I like a little snap, crackle and pop on decel and blue fire jumping out the exhaust at night. I'd be a little disappointed if it didn't do all that.
Thanks, Thats what I thought. I called Stroker and they wanted to sell me kit that was over 700.00.

I priced a 600 cam install today by kendall johnson customs for 480.00 buks. That's for the purchase of the cam also. Someone said this was a easy change out, how true is this and whata you think about the price

The cam change is deceptively simple. Pulling the can tower off to measure for the shim (didn't even need to change it) was the hardest part.
Fwi if I get motivated my 600 cam will be heading to ebay soon.
Some one asked why I switched back to the stock can when I know that I will be replacing it again soon, well it really is a simple change..a nice way to spend the morning I'd say.

When you get that 585 in I'd like to see some numbers if you dyno it.
If you read the cam threads here.
Make sure if you go with the 600 or bigger you make sure your springs are rated for it.
Some years are fine sone are not.
I went with the 585 and needed no new springs on my 08
It was a simple job. The longest part was driving to the hd dealer to pickup a gasket I forgot to order. It took longer to adjust the push rods then to install the cam.

I'm out on the road and had Carls Speed Shop install Carls grind CM580 yesterday... 1st riding impression is great, a noticeable boost in mid range torque up 4500-5000 rpm. I already had the VH 2 into 1 Big Radius pipe and 31/76 jets. I will get back here in a few weeks and more miles with the new setup. I'll get a decent idea of highway performance on my ride home to the FL panhandle.

I know with the Woods 630, it runs great at low speeds...after all, I've ridden with you.
What the hell do you care, your top speed is 37...
Good idear..I was actually thinking of looking into a smaller cam to get even better mpg
