Bypassing the EHC

Does anyone know how to bypass the EHC (2004 Bulldog)without going the WP-4 route (not enough green right now). The EHC is dead and I refuse to buy another.
I have the service manual and an electronics background, just a little new to the VTwin systems.

Thanks in advance

What function is dead, or are they all dead? You can bypass the ignition so the bike runs, and put a plunger on the starter. This will get you down the road, but if the whole EHC is toast, then you have nothing, no lights, blinkers, speedo, etc. It would be a matter of direct wiring each individual function, which is basically rewiring the entire bike. I rewired mine with a very simple 12v system, but I was planning on changing my bars and doing some other major mods so the entire bike was torn down. The cheapest and easiest route by far is the WP or a new EHC.

Hey Smitty I have one that I just put on ebay. Its off of my 03 Chopper and is good. The part # is BD4030-1B which was a replacement. The manufacture date of this one is 0506. Don't know if it will work on your bike but I am sure someone on here can tell you. If it will you are welcome to it for $50 plus shipping!
I agree with you though I got to the point where I refused to buy another and probably would have set the thing on fire if I had no other choice, lol!

I gave mine to a friend here "Sloan2" when I put the Thunderheart unit on....He thought his was going south just before a rally..
Can't say I miss it at all....

I think I got an 04 here that you can have for free, but it has no ignition, headlight, horn, or starter function, and I cut it from the harness so you might have some work splicing it back in.

Everything will work except I have no spark. It will turn the starter, I have headlights, blinkers, stop lights, horn everything but spark. Wtih the key truned on the EHC has no LEDs on it except when I turn it on - one blink of the power LED and thats it. The Thunder Heart module has no LED on either with just the key on or while I start it. Its supposed to blink when you try to start it.

I ran 12V direct to the TH module to make sure the red LED came on and it did so I assume the Thunder heart module is ok.

I really dont care at this point about lights and blinkers, I just want to get the bike started to make sure I have a good ignition, TH module, and coil. I wouldnt run it like this for long but just to make sure the previously mentioned parts are good.

Thanks

Cut the power wire going from the EHC to the TH module, and just run a fused hot from the battery, through a switch under your seat, then into the TH module. Flip the switch under the seat, press start, and you have igntion. If you wanna get fancy upgrade the key switch to a 12v and run the hot to the TH from there. Switch under the seat is quick and easy but anyone who knows it's there can pushstart your bike.

Thanks Moe. I'll do that this sometime this week and report back.

I noticed you live in the philly area. I travel up there from time to time, next time I get up there I'll look you up.

Did you check for shorts in the wiring especially the wires that go to the ignition?

Sounds like you're turning it on, power comes on, then a short (or open) is causing the EHC to go into protection mode...
