Building my first bobber

I contacted these guys a long time ago, great guys. When I lived in Tulsa, OK a good friend of mine is from Ardmore, this is his uncles shop. I was going to get this actual kit which is sweet because they're NADA and/or KBB listed so your insurance won't be insane! Top notch guys, they have some SWEET kits. Last time I talked to him he had a few finished and was only selling them for 12k though...they sure don't have resale like the Dog but if you're gonna keep it it'd be cool to finally be able to say "yeah, I built it"

I am finally going to try it.... I am gong to put together my first bike. Here is a bobber I am gonig to try and make mine look like except for the ape hangers I think I will stay with drag bars and powder coat the whole black with the wrinkle flat black. I have found some good frames on ebay and I will rat the rest of the bike out. So keep a look out for some cool old school parts for me brothers:2thumbs:

I wanted to show you a pic of the type bobber my friend Crazy Joe builds. He has been a friend of mine for 12 years and is a true lifelong biker. Worked on my shovelhead for me when I first got it.

He builds these (a few a yr and each one different) and puts out a quality bike for a reasonable price (the two he had at the July Jamboree car show last weekend were priced at $16 and $19 grand). When you talk about spending $12 or $13 grand for a box of parts on a kit bobber, you will have this much and probably more plus a whole lot of your own time and work into it. So I am just putting this out for you who are thinking of building a bobber to think about. I can get more info and post more pics if anyone is interested. All of the bikes I saw had 107 inch motors.

Here is what he wrote to me when he sent me a bunch of pictures of his work:

"KEN, I HOPE YOU GOT THESE PHOTO'S. I SPENT AN HOUR TRYING TO GET THEM OFF TO YOU. THERES WAY WAY TOO MANY PICTURES HERE IN THIS FILE TO SHOW ALL OF WHAT I DO... BUT YOU GOT A LITTLE OF SOME OF THEM SO ENJOY. HERES THE DEAL THOUGH, I BUILD ONE EVERY FIVE WEEKS OR SO. ITS ALL I DO NOW SO IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE INTERESTED, THESE ARE FINE WELL MADE SOLID MACHINES, AND NOT TO BRAG....BUT I WILL ( NO WOULD) I WILL COMPARE THE CRAFTMANSHIP AND QUALITY TO ANYTHING I HAVE EVER SEEN OVER THESE LAST THREE DECADES OF ME BEING A FOOL FOR THE WIND. THAT GOES FOR ALL THAT TELEVISION HYPE CRAP TOO. GOD BLESS THEM PEOPLE BUT MAN THEY SURE MAKE IT SEEM LIKE SOMETHING IT ISN'T. THESE BIKES? THEY ARE ONE OFF IN MANY WAYS AND SELL FOR MODEST PRICE'S AT THIS POINT IN TIME. AFTER AWHILE THEY WILL NATURALLY GO UP SOMEWHAT IN PRICE BUT THE QUALITY CANT BE ANY BETTER AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED. A SISSY BAR ALONE TAKES ALMOST 6 TO 8 HOURS SOMETIMES TO PERFECT. THAT’S BEFORE THE CHROME STARTS. THE REST? WELL... IT'S DEFINATLY A LABOR OF LOVE MY FRIEND. IT HAS TO BE. THERE ARE SO MANY ONE OFF BRACKETS AND THINGS THAT EACH BIKE DEMANDS THAT THERE ARE ABOUT 300 HOURS IN EACH MACHINE. GOOD HOURS AND GOOD FUN. TELL A FRIEND. IF YOU OR ANYONE YOU KNOW HAS AN INTEREST CONTACT MY PARTNER "DELRAY GRAVES" AT 435 313 2588.... HE IS MY PARTNER IN CRIME. THE COMPANY IS "CONVICT CUSTOM CYCLE'S" AND SO THAT’S ALL FOLKS. SEE YOU BUDDY."

Crazy Joe is on the right (No Shit, huh!).

This orange peanut tank is the $16,000 bike (I think).
