buddies dog got sick

My buddy just bought an 04 ridge from big dog. Only has 8000 miles. On a run this weekend he lost all top end power. Said it would just bog down in anything above second gear. He idled up to me on the freeway in first gear. Lookin at his bike he has oil or possibly tranny fluid from right side battery cover all down the side of his bike. At first I thought he may have blown a head gasket, but it starts up and idles fine. I couldn't see anything leaking out of the cylinder heads. Then I was thinking it may be something with the tranny? No fluids coming out of the exhaust and he said it wasn't popping or shifting weird, just that when you would run the rpm up it would lose power and bog down. He is going to talk to the dealer tomorrow, but wanted to hear some possible issues on here first. I'm not real familiar with the s&s and baker system yet. Had to be trailered home. Sure ruined his weekend.

All that oil and you couldn't see where it was coming from? I don't think the tranny would give problems with bogging down. Sounds more like a compression problem. He could have a blocked valve coming from his rear rocker box. This would build up pressure and possibly blow oil by the rockerbox gasket. The rear cylinder has a "one way" check valve coming from it that hooks to the back of the breather. Easy to check to see if it's working. Should let air flow only out to the breather. That's my uneducated guess and I'm sticking to it. I just don't know what problems would be caused by this valve not working, but I bet someone on here does.

All the oil was just on the side where the wind had blew it down the side. From my extremely Hung over perspective I couldn't see where any was leaking or pooling. Even while running I could detect no leaks.

Where the blow by line comes out of the front head and goes to the airfilter I've seen them blow oil from this all over bikes before. If this is what it is route the line from the head down under the bike and seal the hole where it goes into the back plate on the airfilter. I guess if it gets enough oil in the filter it would bog it down. JUST A THOUGHT.
