Thought you guys might find entertainment discussing this one.
Friend of mine who owns an 05 Ridgeback called me and said he had broken down on the side of the road and thought he had snapped a clutch cable and asked if I'd mind replacing it. Soooo... I had the bike hauled over to my place and put it up on the lift and after a brief inspection determined initially... yep... cable is slack. Told him it would be no problem and I'd take care of it for him for materials and a fifth of Wild Turkey Honey (god that stuff is good).
After a day or two I finally got back to working on it. Started to disassemble the cable system for replacement and realized there was still continuity through the cable. Damn... Having had a similar problem crop up on mine, I was hoping it was not going to be what happened to mine (broken retaining clip on the input shaft, required teardown of the tranny to replace a 3 dollar part). I was hoping it was going to be a loose clutch hub nut.
So I opened up the primary and got the clutch bearing out from the center of the clutch and found the nut still tight. That's when I started doing some more inspecting. Pulled the clutch pack off and...
Damn... snapped input shaft.
This is where I get off this ride. It's on it's way to Integ in Peoria, IL this morning.
Attached a few pictures of it for everyone to see the carnage. I should have realized something bad had happened when I opened the primary and found scratching from the clutch spring bolts on the inside of the primary cover. It looks like the shaft snapped and the clutch pack moved towards the outside of the primary and banged against the inside of the cover. I have a few pics of that damage too.
