Broken shock mount

We had quite the exciting ride coming home from Old Shawneetown River Rally. We were crusing down the highway around 9pm and all of a sudden...bam....the rear tire locks up. Luckily I kept it upright and got it pulled to the side of the road. We called a friend and he came and got us with his trailer. When we got it home (about 1am)
we put it up on the lift to check it out. What we found was that the shock mount had broken completely away from where it is welded to the swingarm. I am curious if anyone else has had this happen. The bike is a 2002 Bulldog with 20,000 miles on it. Besides causing the soiling of a good pair of undies, it shreaded the tire and chipped the paint on the side of the swingarm. What would be the proper way to address this with Big Dog??

Wow -- this happen without the shock being under load (like you just hit a huge pothole)? Glad you were able to get it under control and to the side of the road.

Well, your bike is 8 years old. I know it sucks, but BDM has nothing to do with it at this point. I feel for ya but I would if it was my bike I would not blame BDM. I would just get it fixed and ride again.

Is a fresh clean break or did it look like it had been cracked or stressed for a while?

I would think that this would be a frame break and BDM would take care of it like they did Ray's frame. Thanks again for that BDM.

I talked to Daytec and they are going to repair it and powder coat it for free. To bad it's not exactly free....it shredded the $250 rear tire that I just put on in May.

Had the shock bolt shear off on my chopper one time. BD would not cover it outta warranty. Had to remove the swingarm to get it out. It was a mess.
