Broken exhaust again

I finally got my bike back together after stripping it down upon returning home. It was running badly and I was worried it wouldn't get me home but she always gets me home (most of the time!). Anyway it was sounding like it was running on one cylinder but without the power lose.
Didn't think much about it after changing plugs, wires, oils, tighting everything up and some other things.
I had her ready to start up but still had the oil filter removed as I needed to flush out the old motor oil so once I got her started it sounded real bad. But I was holding my liter coke bottle under the filter housing as the old oil was pumping out and my hand was burning up!!
After I shut her down I start inspecting the pipes and sure enough the front C-clip that holds the flange on the pipe is missing and the rear pipe is cracked at the first weld right at the exhaust port about 1/2 way around. Now I know why she didn't sound right, she was hurting but I wasn't listening. :spank:

Anyway here we go again with those damn Stainless Creation pipes. This will be the third welding on this set and of course my other set has been welded up several times also. Guess they just can't hadle the miles/abuse I put on them. Going to have to look at welding up a totally new bracket for them as the stock one never holds on either pipe.

But they do look good when they are polished up.

Ray,
Your pipes are the Stainless Creations Wrath pipe right? Do they perform and sound good? I got a set of Chaos 3s on my K-9 but I was thinking of going with a cool 2-1 style pipe. I know Duane at Cycle City, TN has the Wrath in silver ceramic coated that he told me about. If you are in need of a new pipe and like the ceramic coating to cut down on the heat give him a call. I would jump on it but I like the shiny stainless.

I agree!! If anyone deserves a new bike it is Ray. :2thumbs: Sheldon should give him one of the new choppers to promote while Ray is driving across our fine country. They could name the new chopper the Rayhound!!

Here is my broken pipes. Don't know why I stick with these 2 sets of Stainless Creations but for whatever reason I do but they have been a real pain in the ass.

Here is where the rear pipe broke. I though it was only cracked about half way around but when I pulled them I found that it was broken through. This probably can't be welded up again.

This is the rear mount that has broken twice now and been rewelded. It also stripped out my transmission mounting bolt hole

Here is the pipe again. The front flange c-clip broke on this one and only half of it remained. It was leaking pretty badly by the time I got home.

These are the drag pipes I had Clint fabricate for me back in 04 when they had just came out with the 05 RSD bikes. They have been broken at least 3 times that I can remember and arrows point to the breaks

Looks like for now I will put the drag pipes back on once I fabricate a bracket for the rear. I have my Martin Bros pipe also but it doesn't like my motor for whatever reason and I can't use the rear peg.

So my exhaust issues continue

If these companies had any sense, they would hire you as a test "pilot" for all new/old products and any new production Big Dog Motorcycles. BDM could put a stamp on each bike that said "QC inspected by RAY". Everyone could then buy with confidence "Quality built and inspected in the USA"
