BREATHER QUESTION

I'm not sure what I really need in regards to my breather set up. I have a spike air cleaner. When I pulled the AC, carb. and manifold to ditch the restrictors I noticed that the AC bracket had breather bolts holding it on. I want to replace the bolts because the allen sockets are a little mangled. Do I need to replace them with breather bolts or can I just use regular bolts of the correct length? My current breather set up has the front head going to the carburetor and the rear head going to the oneway valve connected to a tube that dead ends underneath the bike. According to the SSW+ manual it looks like this should go to the crankcase or the manifold. I did a search and it looks like some have their rear head vented to the ground also. Is their some advantage to this setup?

You don't need breather bolts on an 05.

It sounds like it is set up correctly. Front head will have a small vacume line to the carb & with the spike set-up you have, the rear head should go to a 1-way valve and then be run to the ground.

If your having trouble with oil in a cylinder, then it could be several things (do a search on the site). It could be valve guides, front vacume line pulling oil into the cylinders, etc, etc, etc.
