Break out boxes for testing no start. 2007 k9

Does anyone have the essential Break out boxes required to test the EHC for a no start/crank condition that I could rent , borrow or acquire ??

I know I can get the EHC tested by someone but I’m not there yet ,,,, I think the problem is in maybe harness or handle bar switches. The starter button is working since I can turn on my factory air ride with it. I get no voltage at starter solenoid wire with key on or holding starter but. Not sure about the run button but turn signals work and head light buttons work New battery all tested with 12.8v and above at battery. All factory carb bike no add ons. Bone stock. It just sat over the winter but was running fine previous ,,,
open to any ideas ??
Thanks. Coondog

Sounds like the ehc isnt sending the starter a signal since you are saying the air ride is working off the starter switch just fine...so i dont believe its the switch but it is still possible....i about bet money the ehc is taking a shit...That was a common failure with the ehc not sending a signal to the starter...i had a slam button on my blue bike and i cranked it off the slam button for 9 years till i finally replaced the ehc..

See if this manual helps. There are leds on the EHC that indicate some of the input and output functions. If the compression relief sols are turning on for a second the start input and run are working. THe EHC grounds the green wire going to the starter sol. I believe that it will read 12v to ground until the EHC grounds it and it should read 0v. Do you have 12v on the big started wire? If the battery is low or bad or bad connection the 12v on the big wire will drop to 9v or less when the start button is pressed. You can check the ground side by reading from the ground center post on the battery to the starter case. If you read voltage when the start button is pressed it is the voltage drop across all of the connections between the battery and starter case. Most of this is easier to do with two people. Put your volt meter across the center posts of the battery and try to start it. If the voltage drops when you try to start it the EHC start functions are good. Read Chapter 6 a couple of times.
Edit: I ran into a file size problem and had to deleate what wasn't the manual.Big Dog Electrical Diagram 001.JPGBig Dog Electrical Diagram 002.JPG

I will use this info and see what I can find. I did the no start /crank trouble chart and found that it brings you to ( does the head light shut off when you hit start ) and it doesn’t so it tells you to go to start button diagnostic tree where it has you test the backbone harness which is why I was looking for a break out box that they talk about
Thank you so much for this info and I will use it to see what I can find

Welcome from NJ,
This link is for the 07 manual read it in order to get an idea of how it all works. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6qhsvizxe3u6004/AABzoOCPJ7oT4A2_ZX69IjU6a?dl=0 Page 8-17 will give you info on the start system.

That being said : most of the time your problem turns out to be a weak battery or ground. Have it load tested to be sure. Next go to the EHC an disconnect the connectors looking for loose wires and also clean and replace the dielectric grease inside. You can't go wrong and it's free and good preventive maintenance.
I'm not sure about air ride but I don't think the start button has anything to do with it. After you hit the run button then the start button you should hear for 1 sec the CR's (compression release's) click . It's best to pull the green wire off the starter solenoid so you can clearly hear them. At the same time read the green wire and it should jump to 12ish volts to activate the solenoid. If you don't get either the EHC may not be getting the signal from the start button or not sending the voltage required to the Starter. If you hear the CR's your getting the signal but the EHC may still not send the voltage. If you need to shoot the PCB this will help.

Good luck and give us updates on your progress. A slam button as suggested by Knothead is a great work around or you could install your own direct start button if the rest of your EHC seems good.

I appreciate your comments I guess nobody had break out test boxes except BD dealers?? Does anybody test and repair the EHC’s ?
I have a test box for Thunderheart EHC which is what bigdogpartskingpin has pretty sure. Not really sure if it’s compatible with the newer BigDog EHC. Curtis @ WSW definitely can test your unit though.

When you have factory air ride you activate it by key on , hit start button then hi beam button to air up so I know the start button is working. The battery is brand new When I key up the speedo wows then I hit run then start and I get nothing,,, no noise at CR’s. The green solenoid wire is always dead but the starter has power on main cable. Were you sending a picture ?? All I got was a black box,,,,, and thanks for the comments

Hey brother do you know if the original EHC outside box is copper or bronze color?? It doesn’t seem right since all the manual pictures and photos I have from other bikes are black. Just trying to put the pieces together. Thanks for the offer but I made some test wires with new jst terminals

Would be great if you could post a couple pictures of what you’re looking at and working on. Below are the different types of EHC from the older BigDogs to newer (‘04) to aftermarket DeadOneCustoms. The tester is the last pic & I am pretty sure was only used on ‘03 & earlier.9A754D97-3DD6-404D-8D8E-6A57F822F1BE.jpeg8D30E8CA-A9A9-497D-BB54-8971EB19B2E6.jpeg595B899C-6AE4-4AD3-8839-990F815AAE9D.jpegA72CC0F8-DD5D-4120-A52E-9FFE11203FFE.jpeg
