BRAKES - Best way to clean?

Ok... after some searching I could not find the answer...

Some oil got spilled on my rear brakes and now they do "nada"... is there an easy way to clean them without tearing them out? a home degreaser (dishwasher liquid, etc.) will work?

spray brake cleaner. that's what it's made for. if that doesn't work, will have to replace the pads.

I think you already know the answer to this, but in order to fully spray them down with brake cleaner your going to have to remove them. Now after going this far, which is not that hard to remove them, and here's your answer, replace them, and hence you already knew this.:)

Yup, I guess i was being lazy and expecting a magic solution :D

I did spray loads of a strong degreaser (KH-7) and rinsed it several times.... went for a ride and there is some improvement but not 100%

New pads will be! :2thumbs:

Be sure to CAREFULLY remove the shims that center the caliper on the disc and return them to the correct spot on reassembly.

Thats why I was being lazy... I know it can be a PITA to reassemble... I will buy some brake cleaner... even though the pads look a bit thin already I will wait till my next rotation, now I just want to ride as much as I can this last few days before going back to work.

Thanks Gents

I would spray them with Brake Cleaner, wipe them down, and go for a test ride. Repeat until you're happy with it. I really don't see a need to remove them to clean the oil off. I am lucky in that my wife has a really cool metal canister steam cleaner that I can steal from her when she is not looking to clean off grease residue from various parts.

Since you just want to ride and there's not much left to them, go riding:whoop: and hold the back brake on and burn the bitch's clean:roll:
