Brakes and "Whining" Sound

Energy One
Greetings, I have a new 08' K-9 I just purchased, after about 150 miles the brakes started producing a "whining" sound when I applied the front brake and a few days later the rear to although less prominent. They told me at the shop that this was normal and that it was going top be that way maybe a while and maybe always. It did not do this during my test drive/. My question is-does anyone know if this is in fact "normal" or not? I admit that I know little about the mechanical aspect of bikes as I was only interested in riding them until now (and with this investment), so forgive my lack of knowledge, any help is appreciated.
Thank you

Cross drilled Rotors will make some noise if not countersunk or drilled with some relief , my 07 Chopper has always made some noise on the front disk , just keep a eye on the pads and disk "pins" there known to become loose !!

Satterfield check the caliper mount bolt torque. Mine started making this whinning noise and I removed the bolt, applied medium strength locktite and torqued to spec
Front Brake rotor mount bolts 16-19 ft lbs (5/16" Bolts)
Rear Brake rotor mount bolts 23 -27 ft lbs (3/8" Bolts)
Not a peep since.

Thank you all, it seems that it must be "normal". That is unfortunate because I find it distracting and somehow it seems like something that cost this much money that they (BDM) should be able to eliminate this. Its hard to imagine someone comes back from a test drive and the brakes are making this sound, and they are told "Hey, thats normal, they will always sound like that. Then you say OK here's my 30 K. But it is what it is, at least I know now it is "normal".
Thanks to all,

Many threads on this over the years. Mine made a lot of sound also but with Performance Machine and Brembo rotors that's what your going to get I guess.

Head over to the Group Buy section and get yourself a set of Z-Pads. It will almost eliminate all that noise. I put them on mine a few months after I bought it and they are still going strong 5 yrs later.

Hi "T" or Tony Satterfield;
In reference to your line about squealing brakes; when I bought my K-9 new in `06 the brakes made the noise of the rotor`s drilled holes at 11mi. on he odometer. After some wear, approximately 1500mi. , my brakes also started the rumbling/whining sound you speak of. At service time I opted for premium pads and the problem cleared up. The stock pads or pucks, as some prefer to call them, are constructed of a soft medium so as not to pot-on friction medium or disturb the finish of the rotors. Be advised that with harder medium some potting of friction material will occur on the rotor face. Imho, "in my humble opinion", a small price to pay for greater braking performance and safety. Is that not worth the added price alone?
Check the Technical section and you may find a group buy of Lyndall Premium Pads possibly discounted through The Big Dog Biker forum. Another plus is that I have over 18,000mi. on the aftermarket pads and they are still going strong. Good luck!

Not sure what you're hearing, but the ol'lady has always said mine sound like locusts when coming to a stop, esp the front. And she's right, they do. Tranny also sounds like a jet fighter throttling down when I pull in the clutch when approaching a stop.
