brake sensor

I'm sorry if this has been addressed....I've found others with a similar problem but not a solution.

My front brake handle won't trigger the rear brake light. I know the trigger is adjustable, but when I inspected the sensor in the handle I found it in shattered pieces. I ordered a new sensor from Donna and wired it in to no avail. A direct magnet placed on the new sensor wouldn't trip the light on either. I removed the new sensor and touched the two source wires together.....No light. I thought for certain that would do it, so now I think my problem is in the pc board, but everything else works as it should.

Any insight?

Thank you!

Are the magnet & sensor at the right distance between them two? I have been there... after playing with it for a bit I got it right.

Thank you for your reply....I'm not sure about proximity of the trigger magnet yet. I'm trying to get my light to come on with the handle opened, sensor and pc board exposed. I held a 50 lb rare earth magnet right on the old and then the new sensor with no result. Then I simply exposed the two lead wires for the sensor and touched them (ignition on), again with no result.

At this point I would disconnect the right side PCB and the EHC then check for continuity from the orange wire on the PCB connector to pin B-26 of the backbone harness connector.

Here's a quick check out since you have the control apart. This will eliminate all wiring back to the brake lights. Get out two (2) sewing needles out of the ole ladies sewing kit.

With the handle bar connector disconnected (as you stated earlier) from the PCB, stick one needle in the black wire slot on the white connector. Stick the other needle in the orange wire slot on the white connector.

I used an ohm meter lead to short the two needles beginning with the black to the orange needle.

Turn on the ignition switch and lay the ohm meter lead or something simular against the black wire needle, then to the orange needle so both are being touch at the same time. The results should be your brake lights come on. Do it several times to verify.

If this works then you know the issue is with the PCB or the Brake reed switch. :D :2thumbs:
