Toying with getting a Big Dog bike as I used to have a brand new 2005 Big Dog Chopper and sold it after 7 years and 87,000 miles and regretted the sale ever since. My current bike, a 2014 Victory Jackpot is now in need of tranny work which will cost about $5,000 give or take to fix, so am thinking it might be a good time to dump that bike and get a Big Dog.
Have always loved the Chopper and K-9, but recently saw a 2003 Boxer for sale nearby to me for $8,999 which got me thinking that maybe I should go that route. Appears the Boxer has a rubber mounted engine which I like as I know it will be smooth riding, but then I won't have that full "chopper" feel.
Any thoughts about the boxer compared to the other models?
I currently ride a lot as the bike is my commute vehicle, so I put in over 1,000 miles a month. That might change though as I could be retiring in a few years.
Thanks!

Yeah, those K9 bikes are sure nice looking. As much as I loved my 2005 Chopper, it did happen to have the swingarm bolt issue where it would keep breaking. But I imagine the K9 would not have that issue.

Well if you want my opinion, I have both a 04 Chopper and a 06 Mastiff. They both offer a different riding experience. I guess it all depends on which one makes you look cooler. Some people fit a chopper better. Some a Mastiff. So with that I am done offering you absolute no help in this matter.

Nah, you made some good points. Basically one should go with whatever fits best.
I wonder sometimes though if there are any models or years of Big Dogs that should be avoided.

It is absolutely about fit. I currently have a '06 Mastiff and like the 'pro-street' ride. I had an American Iron Horse (AIH) Texas Chopper (similar to K9) and regret selling it but like the fit and finish better on the Big Dogs so plan on getting a K9 as soon as I can.

My daily ride is usually my 14 HD Ultra Limited because I need the bags for work.

Kinda like a bag of chips...... hard to have just one. Got an 04 Pitbull and Chopper. Each has its own appeal. Depends on the day. Chopper does see more miles and gets more love n looks. I have noticed that on the Pitbull I can lay it over more in the corners (scraping pegs is easier). With the Chopper I find the swingarm scraping which limits the cornering. JMO. :chopper:

Guess I can't go wrong with any Big Dog I get, but I feel myself leaning towards the Chopper or the K9. Being a tad on the tall side at 6' 1", I always felt the chopper fit me pretty well. Though that Boxer with the rubber mounted motor is awfully tempting.

How does the Mutt compare to the Chopper? Just found a 2008 Big Dog Mutt for sale for $9,999 with 2937 miles on it, though looking more closely at the ad I think it's probably long gone.
I know the Mutt is basically a scaled down Chopper, but to what extent is it scaled down, other than the spoked wheels?
The site that has it for sale says it has tubeless tires. Is that really true? I thought spoked wheels couldn't have tubeless tires, but then I guess the wheels could have been sealed.
