I thought I had everything under control and now Im get an oil drip behind the primary drips of the frame , I end up with a spot about 4 inches around , I read the threads on it and I thought maybe I had to much oil so I drained some out and still the same and how the hell can you tell how much oil you have in the tank anyway ? my 04 pitbull didn't have the long neck into the oil tank like the o6 has.

- are you talking about the 04 or the 06?

- when did this start to happen?

- are you sure it is engine oil and not primary oil?

I am asking all these questions because what you describe has happened to me... the oil was coming from where the starter joins the primary. the o-ring was not seated properly.

Its the 06 its been happening since I been riding . I will check the primary fluid?

What did you end up having to do?

I pulled the inspection cover for the primary only to find a funky gasket -CMP-4200 . I decided not to remove it it doesn't look like it can be reused ,can you get this at the local hd dealer also pulled the covers off the clutch and the one in the front but nothing behind them, I imagine you have to pull the primary cover to get to that stuff? wtf?

First clean everything and trace where the oil is coming from. I first thought it was coming from the primary cover... but then I spotted it was coming from the primary´s hole where the Starter sits. I had to remove the starter and install a new gasket on it (starter). But as I said... first make sure you find out where the oil is coming from before you start tearing things apart. It´s a PIA!

And the Gaskets are easy to find, no worries.

Thanks Franco , obviously Im a little confused about this, I thought the vent was routed under the motor somewhere and you would put the puke can on it. I will read up on this after I clean it up and check and see if its leaking behind the starter like you said, thanks

Hi Franco , I did what you suggested cleaned that area up real nice with some degreaser and then took it out for a ride for about 20 minutes and when I came back I had a mirror and flashlight in hand and it didn't leak not at all, I changed the oil when I first got and I thought maybe I put to much oil which seems to be the case , its so hard to see in the tank with that long neck on it but I did remove a some of the oil a little at a time and hopefully this is it, I mean the bike only has 4,400 miles on it.
as far as the primary inspection plate gasket goes it says cmp-4200 . I contacted the local hd dealer and they don't seem to have a clue so going to call JP Cycles and see if there is a cross reference part number for it. thanks for the help Man!

be super careful when tightening the 4 screws for the cover!!!!!!!! they take very little torque and the corners of the covers are easy to crack. DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN!!!!!!

Still leaking!! I haven't had it out much because of the weather but its leaking still and Franco I believe your right it looks like its coming from behind the starter somewhere , there is a hole in the back of it on the primary side I took this picture of it , is that a vent hole or is there a screw missing the white on the bottom is a piece of paper I slid in there?
You cant see it in the pic but it has an indentation the same as the one above that I circled?

I'm going to throw this out there. Check the vent hose between starter and primary. See if it is plugged up, and causing pressure in the case. I've seen this happen 3 times.

Ill do that if I can find it but do you have any idea what the hole in that picture iposted is suppose to be for?

I don't see a vent tube from the starter to primary and maybe it is a gasket but the bike only has 4400 miles on it/

BDM installed a vent same vent on air shocks look from pictureto the left of starter it looks like 9/16 bolt head. Bd install this plug vent on the inner primary housing next to the starter look and see if it has one. Poor picture can't make heads or tail
