Black plugs??

Requesting some SME support. 09-K9...117 Super G stock..BR 2 into1 ...K&N airfilter. I have replaced the stock main and inter with a 78 and 31. The bike is runnining like a raped ape...very little back fire, no coughing, and no hesitation at midrange.

The only problems...it is idleing very low...and the plugs are black as coal...running very rich....should I adjust the main to a 76 and leave the inter at 31 ....or is it the inter that leans the motor, and if so...what way do I need to go??

Research here online is good...but with the 117 and super-G...thought I would ask the group for their 2 cents.

If it's running well and idles rough you need to adjust your idle mixture. Warm the bike up, bump idle to 1000 rpms using idle screw then adjust the idle mixture. Do this by: Turning the screw clockwise till it starts to die. COUNT THE TURNS COUNTER-CLOCKWISE in 1/4 turn increments until it dies again. So, if you turned it 8/4 turns you need to meet in the middle which would be 4/4 (one full turn) back clockwise. Next stab your throttle and adjust the accel pump till it cracks well, more then 2 turns out on the accel pump and you may need to bump your inter jet, but doubtful. Search the "HOW TO ADJUST YOUR CARB" in the how to section for more detail.

as Pro said....but when you do this...screw your accel pump in til lightly seated...this will shut off the accel pump....then once your done adjusting the idle mixture...then do your accel pump....

From the replys.... it is not the jets but carb adjusments that is producing the black plug virus.....in the old days... a shot of penicilian and a bottle of Jack Daniels would cure just about anything.:lol: :lol:

Will try the adjusments tonight...

Also avoid using the enrichener if at all possible.
