Hey y’all!

still having so many problems with my bike. I just static timed my new hi-4n to TDC and it was idling just fine… then I went to kill the bike and it shorted a bitor Something. Then I’d turn it on and the oil light would come on for a second then nothing. Now I get nothing at all. Even dropped a brand new battery in it. I did the ehc replacement last year so that’s brand new. I know there’s no main fuse so is there something I’m missing here? Please any help is appreciated.

When you say you get nothing, does the headlight come on when you turn the key? Any lights on ignition?
Have you measured the voltage across the battery (I know its new but that desn't matter) Should be 12.8v before you turn it on.
There is a 40A restable breaker between the VR and battery.
Has the headlight socket been upgraded -- there were a number of problem ones in many BDM's.

Thanks for the response! Nothin. No lights no ignition nothing at all. Measured the battery and it’s good. Where is this breaker?

I would look at the key switch and make sure it is working.
If you pull it you could then short the 2 pins together to simulate a key on. If you get lights then you need to replace the key switch.
Switch works. It must be shorted somewhere else. Where is this breaker? What’s the VR?

VR is the voltage regulator. Mounted on the front frame down low. Depends on the year and model the breaker is near the battery small rectangular box with two terminals. There is a small button on the side that is the reset.

Thank you so much. Mine is an 04 ridgeback. Could I get a picture of what this reset looks like? I may be blind but I see nothing like that at all lol.

Breaker box should be under the seat. Small black/grey square box with 2 wires connected to the top lugs. Reset button will be on the side of the box.20240717_153419.jpg

The Circuit breaker being bad or open would not affect the lack of response from your EHC. The CB protects the battery from a short or overcharge from the Voltage Regulator(VR). If it was bad or open the battery would not charge but everything else would work until it went dead . The new battery would have worked if the CB was your issue unless of course you installed it incorrectly or possibly left a wire disconnected.
The EHC does all the work after the key is turned on. Make sure the EHC has a connection to the battery by following the wires from the battery back to the EHC. If your not the original owner someone may have installed an extra fuse to protect the EHC. If so you will find it on that wire. Also double check the work you did on the new ignition.
You said the key switch was working. How did you test it ??

I tested the switch with my multimeter. It has continuity. I see no inline fuses and I upgraded my EHC with the RIP kit last year so I really hope/think that’s not it. Thanks for helping!

Yes, you could have smoked the EHC especially if it was not protected with a fuse or CB. I would first find and follow the wire from the + side of the battery back to the EHC . Pull the connector off the EHC and read the wire to make sure it's not broken. Once you verify the EHC has power available start looking for possible bad grounds. As JBM suggested, your headlight socket could have shorted out starting the trouble or maybe your rt handlebar pcb shorted out when you hit off. Don't discount a mistake when you installed the new ignition. Electrical issues can be a bear to find. These pdf's are for original BDM not the the new RIP but they may be helpful. Disconnecting circuits can help find problems.
