Bike rebuild update

Well since I have a bulging disk in my back and not riding (neuro surgeon appt on thurs) decided to do some work on the bike. Frame and Tins are out getting powder coat and paint. I am in the middle of a top end rebuild. So far things are going well just taking my time and being very meticulous in removing pieces. S&S service manual is a must for this job.. Pistons and heads are a bit on the heavy fouling side. Thinking about getting them cleaned up at at local shop while I am this far along.

looks like you have some forced down time (Back) did you have a problem with the motor or was it to pump it up a bit? good luck with both your back and your bike.

No problem with the motor decided to take it down for polishing, While I am in there decided to replace the gaskets and orings. I did find one piston with some rubbing on the side and going to take it over to a shop to have it looked at.

Paul,
Had my back surgery in January and missed only three weeks of work. Went on light duty for four weeks, this was during the physical therapy, and then back to normal work. The disc in my back had pinched a nerve that made my leg lose feeling below the leg. Long story short, I now feel great and have no regrets having the surgery.

Upgrades so far.
1. New paint job in works (checked today, frame is still getting powdercoated, tank and tins are completely stripped)
2. Karata 3" ordered
3. Top end rebuild in progress ( rear piston has some wear, I am taking it to a local trustworthy shop to see if pistons need replaced and if the heads need honed)
3. Dakota digital (ordered)
4. New dunlop tire (AVONS went bald)
5. Too much polishing to even mention
6. New FSD sinful exhaust (going to miss the MLB's but their heat shields suck!)
7. Next round from big dog PP Grips/pegs, throttle cables, service manual)
As I start to reassemble the bike I will post pics,

Looks like your doing some great therapeutic time with the bike. Yell if you need help, I'm just down the road

Thanks ray! So far so good biggest concern is the piston wear! I will give u a shout if needed but I feel pretty confident with this one!

Piston wear? Are you talking about the jugs? How many miles did you have on the bike before tearing it down?

No the rear piston head had several marks down the front side decided since I am this far along to replace and hone the cylinders. I honestly dont even know the miles. new pistons are on order and Ghetto choppers will install and hone the cylinders. I started tearing the bike down for a few reasons the last time it broke down on me they said my second starter was bad??? and found out that I had a bad disk in my back that needs surgery. Decided to get paint and all the other customizing done, really just wanted to rebuild the "dog" and put my own style into it..
if you cant ride it rebuild it!

Tonight I had the new dunlop tire installled! started wet sanding the rear wheel... this bike will look new once it is complete.. I really miss riding and look forward to revealing my new 04 pitbull... I have invested about 6K to date... I should be committed for being a whore of chrome and shine LOL....
