My 02 pit was doing something similar to that. A quick call to MrWright determined that it was probably the ignition module. He was gracious enough to send me one he had extra, he was absolutely correct ! That fix allowed me to make the 10 year anniversary meet in Kansas, as well as this year's meet up, and a lot of miles here at home ! ( Now, a quick "Thank You again" to Shannon!)

I'm calling him now.
10 hours each way on a hard tail - now that's worthy of a chopper gif :chopper:

I talked to him and he thinks it's a loose connection somewhere between the battery and the EHC so I'm going to start wiggling wires to rey and get it to die. I'd done this before but now I know where to target my wiggling

I don t think that it is the crank position sensor, the bike would not die but loose power misfire etc...
in addition you wouldn t loose hazard and other functions.
check you spark cables and spark plugs.
a friend of mine had the same problem on a 2009 K9 he rode a few miles then the bike lost power and died.
we ultimately found out that the spark cable form the rear cylinder was broken and madebad contact depending on position and temperature it didn t work.
replaced both cables and sparkplugs, problem solved.
Before buying anything, borrow cables somewhere to try
