Bike caught on fire!

So my bike caught on fire yesterday while riding! It was really pretty funny.... A group of us had just left a bar and after only 3 or 4 miles we had to slow down since we were driving through a small town when my buddy pulled in front of me and yelled for me to stop and yelling blow it out! :loony: As I stopped, the flames instead of blowing under my bike were now visible to me so I jumped off and tried blowing it out... (flames were coming from my voltage regulator) while 3 of us were on our knees trying to blow the flames out my buddy asked if anyone had to piss... Since I had just went at the bar 3 miles behind us... I was on empty so my buddy gladly offered his assistance! So there we were on main street in the center of perfect little white picket fence midwest town of 5,000 people, cars having to go around us and my buddy is standing there pissing on my bike!:(:(

Now that the funny part is over... Since I've only owned a big dog for since spring of this year... Have any of you seen this issue? My bike is an 08 Mutt by the way... oh yea feel free to laugh... I did! What else you gonna do in a situation like that!

I thought the vr issues were cleared up by 08.
Keep us posted on what you find out.

mine did the same thing two yrs ago. I have a 06 mastiff though and it was a recall VR, so BD did step up and fix it for me even out of warranty. I thought they cleared up those issue as well. Keep us posted

OK, that is a pretty funny story and glad it wasn't worse.

I'd be contacting your dealer AND Big Dog to see what the issue is. Maybe a recalled VR slipped through the cracks but whatever the case maybe, BDM needs to know.

My 06 K-9 also burned the top out of the regulator. I was riding at 45 mph and could see smoke in the mirrors behind me. Get a new regulator installed and you'll be fine.

:worthless: Glad that it wasn't worse and glad that you got that fire out before more damage was made. Just change out the regulator...

Make sure that the factory won't try and void your warranty since you "treated" the affected part with urine, which could be considered "an unapproved lubricant".:lol:
