With the economy as it is and life changing events as they come to pass with decisions...decisions...decisons. I am curious to ask this question of the group?

What is the value of our BigDog motorcycles regarding selling a custom bike in todays economy? Can it be done without loosing big $$$$.

I think unless you find just the right customer you will always lose on resale, no matter what brand,, I got rid of my 06 roadking a few months ago & got 500 more than I paid for it, but I sunk 5k in it over 2 years, that = a lose of cash.. you have to enjoy them.. big dogs = priceless... I only paid 21k for my dog but probbly couldnt get that for it a 1 1/2 ys later,, that sux,, love my dog...

Take a look on ebat and you will see ppl losing big bucks every day.

Put the pup up for sale for the price you need to sell it for and see many many calls you get

I can tell you that whomever owned my bike took a huge hit! But don't sell it through a pawn shop! I found my bike at a pawn shop starting out at $12k .... bought it for $8500. Could not believe no one snatched it up before I got it at that? So not to Hi-jack your thread ..... The market has taken a big hit and I would suspect most owners would take a big loss if tried to sell now. Those on Ebay though at decent prices are not moving! I was watching before I found mine!

We as owners are in a very bad catch 22... if you want to sell now you will take a hit. If you wait till the economy turns around, the bike will be so old...you will take a hit!

Just ride it and enjoy it, if you can afford to. Thats the only payoff that you will get.

We all know the economy is not at its best right now. But if you have some money to spend, you should spend it. Not lock it away and watch the world turn with nervous fear. People not spending any money is a big part of the whole problem right now, right? (sorry about that rant)
I have been dreaming about getting a Big Dog since I was a young kid in '94. Never thought it was really a possibility so I always settled for other bikes. I just picked up a beautiful 04 chopper that cost $10k less than the brand new softail I bought a couple years ago. I would say enjoy your motorcycles while you have them. If you have to sell something, take the hit like a man and move on with your life. Bad times are always good for someone, for me I got a big dog for a honda price.

No big surprise in the comments you are seeing here. As with any premium vehicle, you get killed when you try to sell it. Actually, you lose value the moment you take ownership and ride it off the lot. Bikes are no different than cars in that respect. What I observed before buying my bike was that the Big Dog owners who are listing their bikes on eBay are really proud of their bikes, and their reserve prices reflect it, therefore many of the bikes never sell. I found what felt like a very good deal to me at Big Dog of Tampa. My '08 Ridgeback had been sitting on the floor for a long time and they were interested in making a deal. Feels like a buyers market right now if you are patient. On the selling side, it's gonna be tough.

Just sold my 2005 Chopper which was flawless and had a few nice upgrades. 4 years old and lost 14,000 grand and damn lucky it was only that much. Back on an HD where I may not be as cool, but I'm still in the wind and my bike is not a sink hole of depreciation. It was a hard choice to make, but when you may end up with a product with no factory support and I truly hope that does not happen to Dog owners, YOU ARE IN DEEP S---!
if you try and sell. Great bike, great dealer but tuff times. Good luck out there and lets hope for blue skies and sunshine down the road. See ya!

Its nice if it maintains its value, but who cares what its worth, we bought our bikes because we're passionate about riding ...

As did I sir. 40 years on bikes, it's the one passion that still burns. Seperating pleasure from business is a hard thing to do sometimes. Just was letting off steam and dissapointment was all. Ride on.

I didn't buy my BD as an investment or even with the thought of how much, if any, of my money I could get back if and when I sold it. I bought mine to ride and have fun. That's priceless for me. Getting money back, if I sold it, would be icing on the cake for me.

that's funny cherokee---i am in that same boat.

i bought my k-9 on ebay from a guy that had it a short time and he took a very hard hit on the value. it has lost market value since then based on the economy, its age and miles added. but at this point, i don't care what it is going to bring when sold from my estate!!!!!!

We did not buy these BD to make money on as an investment, we bought them to ride and have fun. Just like a boat or a car, you always lose money. Who breakes even? I don't know anybody who has. Just ride and have fun, that's why you bought it in the first place.

With TONS of used H-D's out there in the marketplace and the model changes and upgrades that have been made by the factory, do not kid yourself that they are holding their value like they used to either...it aint happening.

This is a buyers market for toys, where cash is king and if you sell you will take a hit...doesn't matter what brand or type.

don't kid youself and think your harley is woth anything on resale
I bought a 2009 super glide custom in the spring for 13,000
added a few addons for $3,000 ( no labor)
Went to sell it 6 months later, trade in at Harley $8,500
with all original parts with it
2,500 miles never dropped
maintence done more than harley wants
I traded in at big Dog dealer for $11,000
lost $5000 plus labor plus taxes above 11,000 plust all the other shipping from harley
Thanks to big Dog dealer I got a fare trade
and a bike that's makes the Harley look weak to say the least
belive me i seen alot of cheap parts on the harley
and paint that was not impressive
So think twice about thinking the grass is greener in Harley land
Just my opinion

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG! LET ME UP!!!!!!!!!! He asked how much and I said my sale was not nearly as much as I would have liked. Wasn't beating on BD fellas. Just the reality of a high end product that may or may not have any factory support anytime soon. I chose to get out now. I in no way am saying that is what is everyone should do. Just my story.

i like Harleys

Yes they all have resale problems
if Harley quit building so many with 2 plants going it drove the demand down
good luck with your new ride
