Well I will say that like a fool I have had mine in to the triple digits.

Not to it limits, but to mine for the road conditions. Lets say that the neddle was between the above the 110 mark. Was it that fast? Not sure due to unknown of how accurate the speedo is. Will say that it was steady as can be but other than that realized what safety factor I had was quickly desolved.

Oh here is at least one time that I video the nice steady speedo at 100 MPH.

It seems to me that BDM could save them self’s and the consumers some money by going to a smaller motor and transmission. Honestly how many of you here take your bike over 90 plus miles an hour. At 75 to 80 miles an hour mine feels like it’s going to fly apart on me. Or they should at least offer this as an option to cut cost.
110 on the Long Island Expressway commuting to work last week. Got there FAST! Definitely more throttle to go!!! Love my Ridgeback!!!

Sportbike? Wrong forum Buddy!

Oh yea, I could pass you like a fart in the wind in my twin turbo corvette. Big deal..........

I have many times crossed the open deserts and high plains of our great western states at 100 mph for hours on end.
I have to go that fast to keep up with Knotso if he's with me.

Never any problems.

I took mine up to 120 once and the wabble was so bad I could easily have lost it. My cousin was behind me on the Heritage and when we stopped he nearly puked he was laughing so much! (maybe I should have corrected my rear wheel alignment BEFORE I did that!)

Hahahahha..... Well this got blown way out of proportion and off topic real quick. 2004BC I am happy for you that you can go 110 on the Long Island Expressway. I was just stating that if I go over 80 on my Chopper that it shakes and wobbles uncontrollably. It’s not that im afraid to take it that fast as VEJ made it out to be by telling me to "grow a set". The passing him like a fart in the wind statement was just letting him know that im hardly afraid of speed. I wasn’t trying to make a big deal about it. And yes 2004BC I am well aware of what forum I am on and that it is not a sport bike forum. But thanks for pointing that out for me anyway.

Back on topic.
I was merely stating By Big Dog Motorcycles offering a smaller S&S motor cutting the cost my open up sales to a broader market thus keeping them afloat. I wasn’t saying to change every motor in every bike just offer it as a less expensive option. Maybe im wrong.

More options would definately help.
Like a guy said about making three-quarters of what he used to make, being better than making zero.
I would have taken the option to make less money, and still keep my job.
But that option was not given to me.

Sheldon has probably made a deal with S & S and Baker to use the 117 and 6 speed in all of the bikes for commonality of parts. This idea will reduce his inventory and storage of all engine components that make up a different engine to go along with a 117. ( parts inventory is less) It also reduces his marketing costs with the commonality of components through the entire line. Dealers inventorry is reduced as they do not have to carry the additional parts and bikes. Baker and S & S also win with inventory and parts. You can bet be gets them at a large discount. When he had Cloeman, he and his father did the same type of buying of components parts for the furnaces and air conditioners we sold in the 70's and 80's Cloeman was always known for being top of the line and more expensive. They also gave the dealers a large amount of leadway in customer claims and went the extra mile for customer service. I woke for Coleman and a Coleman air conditioner distributor in a/c for 16 years. That is why I bought my Chopper in 05 as I knew what Sheldon and his dad stood for and what type of product they would deliver. Knew they would stand behind any reasonabvle warranty claim and trying to deliver the best product thuy could. I am now on my third bike from BD, moving up each time. One thing negative is they were slow about development ofnew products. As a salesman for them in a/c I would beg for certain type of equipment and it took several years to produce where it could have been on the market in 6 months.

Hope they make it and I haven't had but a few problems with my three dogs. I would buy another

Good Luck to everybody at Big Dog !

Waykool, you might check your tires and balance and I can't recommend the Dyna Beads any better. At first I thought it was Voodoo crap but they truly work like magic. Made a believer out of me.

I'd get some wobble at high speeds, and when ever it happens, I check the air pressure. It's always been low and just add air, problem fixed.

Now, I've seen it for both front and back. If you stay on top of the little things, I think you should be fine.

BDM IS going to offer a smaller engine and rubber mounted as well. It's known as the Bulldog Bagger. I haven't seen one yet.

Even if I liked the bike (which I don't), I wouldn't buy it mainly due to it's smaller engine. Skinny rear tire is second reason not to have it.

If you guys getting wobble would make sure everything is balanced, tight (as in front end) and proper air in tires, I really don't understand why you would be getting shakes at higher speeds.

These BDM bikes are all well designed, and well built motorcycles. I bet none of the ones off the showroon floor would have any problem cruising at 100. The ones we are reading about in this thread may need some service of some sort.

And I might try those dynabeads just to see if they really do work.

Got it! Mea Culpa! Sorry for the misunderstanding and getting lost on the topic.

Back on track I hope BD finds a survival strategy, whatever that might be, because if this economy improves I would definitely consider buying another one. :2thumbs:

Odd statement from someone who has not seen, nor rode one.

That smaller motor puts out more power than our monster 117's do, and it rides ever so sweet.

This bagger just may put BDM on the road to recovery...

I agree whole heartily. That 111 motor is very strong and the transmission is soooooo smoooooth. :D

We did get some seat time on it.

I'd take a 111" "square", balanced, rubber mounted engine over a 117" unbalanced, solid mount any day of the week and twice on Sunday (as they say). A "square" balanced engine will always deliver a stronger, smoother, more consistent power and torque performance curve than an unbalanced engine, which equates to stronger pull and smoother ride!:whoop::2thumbs: I wish Big Dog offered the Bagger's 111" set-up on ALL their models! :yesnod:
