Big Vibration!

I had a vibration in my bike before I put the "dyna beads" in the tires, and took off old wheel weights, and it's still there! In fact,it vibrates my feet, especially my right one,off the footpeg. If I accelerate fairly quickly on the hwy onramp it does it and then if I'm cruising around 75-80 mph.I don't go much faster than that for fear of something occurring due to the vibration.I also checked all the motor/trans bolts already. The only 2 problems I've had since buying the bike 2.5 months ago is the total shutdown and the right fork slightly leaking. I appreciate all input !

Do a search in the Forum, I do recall that there are a few threads on this matter... One was very good and explained how to align both wheels and front fork.

Ride safe!

Make sure all motor mounts are in place and tight, the top one seems prone to disappearing.

I had the right peg vibration also and found that the bolt had backed out and the peg almost fell off. And top motor mount bolt is a common problem. Take it up to 75-80 and pull in the clutch and let the motor idle down. Does it still vibrate? Is it speed related or rpm related?

I agree with Mike on the clutch pull. That would eliminate the motor / drive train being the problem.
Then its back to alighnment . bent rim , wheel ballance.

I just wanta ride
Check the exhaust bolts on pipes. Mine where not tight (got 1/2 turn on the front two) and that helped stop vibration on right side. Just sayin

If the same vibration was there prior to the dyna beads then I would look at the upper motor mount. I would remove the upper bolt clean it and reinstall with loctite. Double check coil mount bolts they tend to come loose as well. As a precaution some have changed the coil mount bolts to longer ones by a 1/4". Hope this helps.

***UPDATE*** All motor mounts, inc. top mount, are tight! Exhaust bolts are tight! Coil mount bolts are tight! Haven't got to 4 of 6 trans mount bolts due to shocks interference, but will drop shocks Monday! Took bike out after checking everything;vibration still there when on the throttle and about 2500-3K rpm.Fairly good at 75-85 mph and cruising!Pulled clutch in at 75 mph and bike was without vibration.Smooth as "glass"! Still can use some ideas guys...gotta be drivetrain-related,right?

main want to check wheel bearings also.
Well, the only thing about the wheel bearings, if you pulled the clutch in and the vibration went away, then it's probably not your bearings. There's no getting rid of all the vibration due to the nature of the beast. Mirrors are strictly cosmetic on mine. Try getting to the rest of the transmission bolts and see if any are missing or loose. If they are all tight, then that may be as good as it gets. Has there ever been a time since you've had the bike that vibration was less?

If the bike has no vibration coasting at 70 - 75 mph. you have eliminated alot of things.
It sounds like drivetrain issue. Either you have something mis-alighned or something is loose. Make shure motor and tranny are tight. Check drive belt in relation to rear pully.
Make shure rear wheel is alighned properly(measure from pivot bolt to rear axel )
If all these things look good-you might have a clutch /primary chain problem.
Check primary chain tension.
Did the vibration just start accuring or did bike always do this for as long as you had it ? Any noise as far as engine , clutch / primary ? any Slipping ?

I had a similar problem with vibration and lost my top motor mount bolt within 30 miles or so. This happened at Sturgis about 3 years ago. The problem was that the Bike was running rich. At the time I was using a Big Air PSI Carb, made the adjustments and it was all good for the rest of the Trip to Sturgis. At first I thought my wife had gained to much weight and the dog was struggling to haul ass.:lol: But it was the Carb Setting and wife never found out my thoughts. Check out you plugs and see if you are running rich.

I'm going to get to the trans bolts today;sure sounds like my problem!Although...my vibrations seemed to worsen after replacing my stock air cleaner with an Arlen Ness 90 degree.I haven't touched anything IN the carb at all!Maybe needs rejetted,as carlos mentioned???

Check the tranny nuts. Then take the inspection & derby covers off. See if chain has proper tension . The clutch nut is tight. If it were anything in there I beleive you would hear it first.
As far as the carb goes... you changed air filters vibration got worse - change back
see if it helps. If it was carb related I think you would notice something at an idle.
Hows it start / idle / rev ? start bike leave on kick stand - give it some throttle- whats the
vibration situation like with a few rpms on it.

I couldn't get the shock mount bolts broke loose, but tried to see what else I could get on them to check. They seem tight.I don't think that's my problem.I doubt if it's the air cleaner change.Sure, carb may need re-jetted(plugs are blackened),but not related to the vibration issue.Took it out for a ride and the vibration is a li'l more than your normal "dog" vibration,in my book, but it smooths out after the hard pull(getting on the throttle).I'll live with it until it seems to worsen. Thanks guys!
