I recently went to downshift and my foot went all the way down. The splines on the shifter lever I belive got destroyed. Long storty short I need to change the shifter lever and in doing so I need to take off the primary and the cluch assembly. This is going to be a good project for me, I've never done it before andI need the mech. experience One of my questions is am I getting over my head with this. If one of you mech. out there can guide me in the right direction I would appreciate it. For diagrams to special tools and torque spece. To brinb it to a shop will cost me over 350 and I have more time than $

Not difficult to do. You should get an HD manual as it best reflects your model. There are several how to's here but I think they are all for RSD bikes and that don't help you out.

But dive in and yell if you need help. If I can do it you can too!

I have broke the weld on the shifter pawl on softails and roadkings and it requires some special tools 1 and 7/8 deep socket to get the drive pully off and some more tools. Pluss to replace the shifter pawl you gotta remove the guts of the tran from the right side some to slip the new one in place. If the spline is stripped would be easier to do an outside the trans "fix". SHould be easy to tell. IF your shifter moves back and forth easy and you can see that the shat is moving with the shift lever then you broke the weld or shaft or something. If you can see it moving on the splines then maybe you can fix it without going into the trans. Good luck.
