Big Dog steps up to the plate

Have to thank Big Dog for stepping up to the plate. My dog was blessed with the dreaded TP package. I had been complaining to the stealers about top end noise from day one and got the usual BS answer that all was normal. 5000 miles later and 1qt of oil every 100 miles left me with no option but to fix it myself this winter (out of warranty). I was planning on tearing it down before I saw Phansen decide to come on and ask us our opinions. Well, I drafted a rather stern PM to the BD people and they asked for a chance to make good.

I took the 'dog down to Freedom Cycle in DE, they are a newer service center, and they tore it down to verify what I already new. Heads were junk. After contacting BD again they paid for the new top end kit in full :whoop: :whoop: .

I had some other work done while things were apart as well. Diamond cut, compression bump, limiters and a Thunderheart kit.

Picked up my 'dog today and it runs like a charm. Not only does it run good it was CLEAN :2thumbs: .

A big THANKS to BD and Freedom Cycle for coming through.:flag:

bike runs great...pulls nice and top end is alot quieter

good news Thumper - presumably the damage to the heads is caused by the intolerances elsewhere? I think I'm right in saying we all (those of us that had TP boxes) have S&S heads.

Thumper, I'm gld you took the time to tell everyone about BD's upstanding customer support. I recently purchased my second bike and it was mostly because of the positive threads on customer service. Based on the threads I read, when it comes down to making things right on issues that clearly aren't caused by the customer, Big Dog has done right almost all of the time.

Yes, Lee the damage was caused by the TP rocker design not the S&S heads. I know some still have the TP design with no problems but I would bet that most have had a problem.

Curdog, your right. Bitching about the bad and not speaking about the good wont help us. Gotta believe that the strength in numbers from the board can only help us in dealing with BD.

I agree BDM has good customer service after the fact and even awesome service in some cases going well beyond their warranty deadlines...
They have worked with me a number of times....
I wish I was closer to the factory so I could meet some of them sometime.

Glad to hear they took care of you. I still have the TP rocker boxes. Have 10,000 miles on the boxes. The front cylinder makes alot of ticking noises but mine does not use any oil. Other than the noise I've haven't had any problems....yet :D
