BIG BASTARD
I have a 2005 Ridgeback with 5800 miles all original EHC, Speedo,etc and was riding this wknd and noticed my mph not working at all but the tach was working fine.............stopped for a while at restaurant and got back one started working again. Later in the day it was stuck at 55mph.

Obvious signs of my Big Dog speedo going out?

Any suggestions or recommendations for replacement please chime in.

if you decide to replace, go with "Maddog" at Value Teck and get a dakota digital. from the first part of your description, made me think that the battery might be low but then the entire description make it sound like the problems we had where BDM came up with a flash fix for the EHC. might want to check with "Ohmster" at KMW.

In my wish-list too... mine has not been working since "day-1" ....... I would like to see how fast I go... not that I have time to watch it ... lol :D

read your manual.......

OOOOPS....was that out loud...:roll:

First, test that the red wire reading is 12
volts. Test the black wire for continuity.
Using the proper equipment, raise the rear
tire, and check voltage at the green signal
wire while spinning the tire. The reading
should be between 0 and 6 volts. If no
voltage registers, replace the speed sensor.

thing is, you replace one thing and that might not have been the one thing that was bad. do your research and testing BEFORE you start throwing money at it, unless that is what you want to do.

Mine just did the sticking at 55 mph today. Just filled up with gas and had reset the trip. Was riding along enjoying the beautiful day and slowed down and the speedo was still at 55 mph. 38 mi into my ride. Arrived back home an hour later shut the bike down and then restarted and it went through the usual, speedo still at 55 mph and it bumped up a little on start routine and then dropped to zero. Most of the time I have to start the bike twice just to get the speedo to work. Getting tired of not having it on the first try.

You right Kaptin.... I always forget the "RTFM" :D :lol:

I will check it in winter... and most probably I will go with the Dakota... things is the f..er works fine when I just cruise under 3 k rpm... as soon as I get excited on the throttle the fucker goes down to zero and stays there till next start up.

If you check you will find that the wirer on the back of speedo come un-sodiered. You have to take apart and fix. There are how to, on this site, I have done mine and it has worked great for years.
