Okay heres the deal in my 04 big dog manual it says we DO NOT recommend synthetic oil and in my 07 manual it suggests using only a premium 20w50 v-twin oil. S&S recommends Mobil 0ne symthetic oil. Both bikes I own are S&S and I run amsoil. Can you lighten me why Big Dog does not like Synthetic oil? just like to know there reasoning behind this Thanks JOE

Just Run Good Stuff!

I run Mobil 1 15w-50 Extended Performance in my 04 Ridgeback.
Mostly because I bought up a bunch while it was still cheaper.
Had no issues when switching over.
Just my 2 cents.

Lots of threads on here about oil and filters.

Happy Motoring!!

Even HD didn't recommend it till they started producing it. I think all S&S motors now ship with synthetic oil. So no issues. I've run it in my 03 and my 05 since the first 500 mile check up.

So - when do you think is the best to switch over to synthetic? I have to break in my new engine (when weather let me do it ).

I cannot buy Amsoil or Mobil here in europe - I'd have to go with RevTech or HD oil (what is very expensive).

i would not use Screaming Eagle Syn or as they call it Syn3..

I had one dealer say they did not like it. It seemed when it was used customers were complaining about seepage at gaskets. I've been using use Mobile 1 since 1000 miles.

Mobil 1 in BD and everything else....noticed significant temp drop that convinced me to switch about 10yrs ago.

Over here at R&B they told me to use Rev tec. That is what I have used for the last 5,000 miles. Thinking about using Mobil 1 because you folks recommind it, and easier to get!! Catching up with Loco Gringo Ray!!!!!! I checked Friday when I got the scooter out for a big 10 mile run and I have 8,300 on the 2004 now !!!!!!!I never look at that part of the mileage cause I watch the about 100-120 miles I need "GAS"!!!!! I wouldn't want anyone to mistake me and my scoot on the side of the road for the infamous Loco Gringo!!!:roll:
